After all the controversy they caused getting together in the first place, it would seem that the romance between Maria Connor and boyfriend Marcus Dent is due to come crashing to an end in Coronation Street this week.
Fans of the show will know how Maria (Samia Ghadie) and Marcus (Charlie Condou) got together last year, despite the fact that they were both in other relationships, and despite the fact that Marcus was gay!

It’s been reported today that Coronation Street prankster Simon Gregson, who of course plays Steve McDonald, hijacked his co-star Andy Whyment’s email account and sent out an email to all his contacts announcing that Andy was in fact gay!
The Sun reports that Simon wrote, “Please all come to my coming out party. I’ve decided to stop living a lie.
“I’ve realised that men make me happy and full of joy and other things.”
Poor Andy – who plays Kirk Sutherland – had apparently left his mobile phone unattended with his email program open. Simon it seems couldn’t resist the prank.
The paper states, “Some friends and colleagues suspected it was a wind-up, but a neighbour thought it was true – to the horror of Andy’s wife Nicola.” Read more & comment »

With Christmas comes the traditional gloom, doom and drama brought to us by the Great British Soap, but this year we can look forward to a bit of slapstick comedy too, as Coronation Street injects some humour into its festive viewing, by means of a turkey dump!
Weatherfield bird-brains, Kirk (Andy Whyment) and Chesney (Sam Aston) are set to have us rolling off our seat with laughter as they are caught dumping a load of frozen turkeys into a canal after causing an outbreak of food poisoning!

The stars of Coronation Street have been left feeling very uneasy as producers of the show have revealed they are about to have their “biggest clear out in years” meaning several stars will face the chop, according to the Daily Star newspaper.
Notorious for his no-nonsense attitude, new executive producer Stuart Blackburn, who is due to start in January, is reportedly plotting a huge shake up to the staffing roster in order to make the show his own, earning him the nickname the “grim reaper” by some of the younger actors.

As fans of Coronation Street will know, in last week’s episodes, cash strapped Tina McIntyre volunteered to become a surrogate mother for Gary Windass (Mikey North) and Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston).
However, when Tommy (Chris Fountain) found out about the deal that Tina had struck with Owen (Ian Puleston-Davies) – in which he offered her £15k to carry the baby – he went mad and told Tina that if she goes through with the idea, he’ll leave her.
Which is a tad unreasonable, given that the couple’s financial woes are in fact all his fault!
But nonetheless, in tonight’s double bill of episodes, we’ll see that neither Tommy nor Tina are prepared to back down on their opposing stances.

As we reported recently, when Coronation Street’s unlikely hero Kirk Sutherland rushes to Beth Tinker’s aid – after a bloke in a pub insults her – Kirk walks away with a black eye, but also a new found respect from gobby knicker stitcher Beth…
And today, Inside Soap reveal that Lisa George – who of course plays Beth – has hinted that there’s a romance in store for her Corrie character in the near future.
Refusing to name names, Lisa teased, “I can’t tell you who the man in question is – but he likes animals!”
Well that’s just about got to be our Kirky – who’s played by the brilliantly funny Andy Whyment, who also stars in The Royle Family as petty criminal Darren – who’s been single ever since his relationship with Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) ended a good few years ago now… Read more & comment »

In a forthcoming episode of Corrie, poor old Kirk Sutherland – he of the tiny brain but big heart – will find himself on the receiving end of a punch in the face, thanks to Beth Tinker!
The storyline begins when chivalrous Kirk (Andy Whyment) sticks up for Beth (Lisa George) when she throws a pint over a particularly obnoxious pub goer…
However, his knight in shining armour routine gets him a shiner as the bloke lamps him, flooring the poor knicker packer.
But when Beth’s overwhelmed by his chivalry as the pair end up “rolling round in the gutter”, could things be taking a romantic turn?
Apropos of gutters, Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has received a caution for fly tipping after a bag of her household refuse – including scripts from the show – were found abandoned at a roadside… Read more & comment »
