Corrie cast and crew at centre of homophobic scandal as bosses warn “gay slurs” will not be tolerated!

It’s been revealed that the cast and crew of Coronation Street have been issued with a warning that “gay slurs” and homophobic comments will not be tolerated by the soap’s bosses.

The warning comes after members of staff at ITV complained that “hate-filled” homophobic comments were made on the set of the show.

Bosses apparently sent a memo to everyone involved in the long-running soap which read, “We have just been made aware of ¬several recent instances of homophobic remarks being made on the studio floor.

Coronation Street’s Charlie Condou (Marcus Dent) left concussed by Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw) after fight scene!

Fan of Coronation Street will know how there is a ton of drama lined up for show favourites, Maria Connor and Marcus Dent, but it would seem that it spilled over in to real life when Charlie Condou, who plays Marcus, ended up concussed after being hit by Ryan Thomas, who plays Maria’s boyfriend, Jason Grimshaw.

Fans of the award-winning ITV soap will know that since an unexpected kiss between Maria (Samia Ghadie) and her gay best friend, Marcus after a cancer scare, both have been able to hide their real feelings for each other, despite both of them being in relationships with other people.

Coronation Street spolier: Anthony Cotton talks about cheating storyline!

Coronation Street’s Anthony Cotton, who plays hot-pot King Sean Tully in the award-winning ITV soap, has defended his character’s suspicions in an upcoming storyline in which he believes that his partner, Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou) is cheating on him.

We were all so happy when Marcus came back to the cobbles of Weatherfield and mended Sean’s broken heart, but it wasn’t long before we noticed the cracks that broke their relationship in the first place coming back to haunt them.

Coronation Street’s Anthony Cotton (Sean Tully) to take part in Mr & Mrs (Mr & Mr)

The popular quiz show, All Star Mr & Mrs, will return this autumn, featuring a wide selection of guests, including it’s first ever Mr & Mr as Coronation Street’s Anthony Cotton takes on the challenge with his boyfriend!

That’s not the only change to the shows formate either, as host Philip Schofield will be going solo this series as his TV ‘wife’, Fern Britton, has been axed from the show as co-host!

Unreality TV meets the stars of Coronation Street on The British Soap Awards 2012 red carpet (PICTURES)

Last night saw the 13th annual British Soap Awards, and all the stars braved the wind and rain to take their seats for the spectacular event, held at the ITV studios in London, where UnrealityTV were on the red carpet to speak to them all before the event started.

The cast of Coronation Street were out in force on the red carpet, hoping to bring home the majority of silverware for a second consecutive year at the prestigious awards ceremony.

Coronation Streets stars Anthony Cotton and Catherine Tyldesley have defended Michelle Collins’ much criticised Manchester accent.

The former Eastenders actress has caused quite a stir since joining Corrie last week, and many viewers have hit out at the Lancashire dialect she has adopted when playing new Rovers Return manager Stella Price.

It had been reported yesterday that her fellow ITV stars were also unhappy with her vocal performance but last night Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully, defended the star, tweeting:

Coronation Street is planning an Easter episode this year, to be filmed partly in London.

The special will be an hour long, and centres around Sean (Anthony Cotton) visiting his son Dylan.

Anthony Cotton staying in Corrie

It seems that despite rumours to the contrary, Anthony Cotton – who plays Sean Tully in Corrie – is staying with the show.

It had been speculated that Anthony was leaving the show in order to work full time on comedy Benidorm, however, the Daily Mirror reports that Street bosses were “delighted” when he signed a new 12 month contract on Friday.

A show insider told the paper, “Antony was off on Friday and out of the blue everyone was talking about him quitting to joining Benidorm.” Read more & comment »

Corrie star in campaign to stop homophobic attacks

Corrie actor Antony Cotton is to star alongside Sir Ian McKellen in a new TV advert that speaks out against homophobia.

Sir Ian – who also made a brief guest appearance on the Street – will provide the voiceover for the ad while Anthony will be portrayed as a victim of a homophobic attack.

Sponsored by The Lesbian And Gay Foundation’s new Enough Is Enough! campaign, the ad will be launched on Monday to mark the International Day Against Homophobia And Transphobia.

Sir Ian said of the campaing, “Your support means we can continue to spread the word that enough is enough, we won’t stand for homophobia in any form.
