Can you name a George Clooney film? How about a rank in the British Army? Sounds easy, doesn’t it? But what if you had to name the least obvious George Clooney film? Or the British Army rank everyone forgets about?

Last Night’s TV – Psychoville

psychoville

I really wasn’t sure whether to laugh, be scared or throw up while watching this new comedy-horror by the truly twisted inventors of The League of Gentlemen, Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton.

It started out being promisingly amusing in the first few seconds with a mystery man, all gloves and black clothes, writing out cards saying ‘I know what you did’ and sealing them with black wax. He’s then called to “Cashier number 4 please” and we see he’s in a bank with someone in the queue behind him remarking that he’s left his candle.

We then cut to one of the recipients of the mystery cards, Mr Jelly, a psychopathic one-handed clown and children’s entertainer who was asleep on his sofa cradling the ashtray that looked very much like the dice one from the set of the Royle Family… Read more & comment »

Last Night’s TV – Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire

krod-mandoon-and-the-flaming-sword-of-fire

The 9pm slot on TV last night really was a let down on the comedy front, what with the diabolical May Contain Nuts on ITV and this equally diabolical ‘comedy’ on BBC2.

It began relatively promisingly and I tittered a few times in the first few minutes, but then it just went from being a tongue-in-cheek dig at dungeons and dragons type fans to just plain absurd.

The gorgeous Sean McGuire as Kröd played a good part – and was especially watchable due to his physique and costume – but was let down by his lines. Ditto Matt Lucas as Chancellor Dongalor, Kröd’s arch enemy. Each had a few funny lines and scenes, but on the whole, it was just, well, not very amusing at all and in fact, it rapidly became tedious to watch… Read more & comment »
