The BBC has seen sense and axed unfunny circus based show Big Top.
The show, fronted by Amanda Holden, flopped and attracted less than 3 million viewers during its first series. Her ITV series Fantasy Lives didn’t wow the public either and closed with just 2.1 million viewers.
“If we’re so terrible, why do we get a big cheer when we finish?” said one of the clowns in this new ‘comedy’ – and I think the BBC were playing fast and loose with the word in relation to this show – and the answer is, “Because I was losing the will to live while you were on.”
Whoever it was in the commissioning department at the BBC who ok’d this ’show’ needs a slap. There are so many BBC shows at the moment that aren’t worth the toilet paper they’re written on, and this is yet another that should be flushed at the first opportunity.
To call it ghastly would be an insult to ghastly things. And as it’s a show about a traveling circus, I wholeheartedly hope it travels on soon. So far in fact that no camera could ever reach it. Read more & comment »
Amanda Holden earlier predicted that people would slate her new sitcom Big Top, which premiered on BBC One tonight. The circus based ‘comedy’ (though don’t expect it to be funny) stars Holden as ringmistress Lizzie.
Speaking on The Paul O’Grady Show, Holden said: “They’ll slate it. They’ll slate me. They’ll say, ‘Why is she a talent judge – she’s in this show and she’s not talented in it’. But it’s fine.”
