The late Bob Holness made iconic the sentence “Can I have a P please Bob” when his hugely popular game show Blockbusters aired at tea time between 1983 and 1994.
However, rejoice BB fans for it’s back on May 14th on Challenge, with radio DJ Simon Mayo at the helm of the revamped show.
And in today’s Daily Mirror, Simon has been talking about the daunting task of taking over such an iconic show, but he revealed that much of the format remains faithful to the original show.
He also announced that there’s to be a celebrity edition of Blockbusters, featuring Paul Daniels and his wife Debbie McGee, Konnie Huq and Blur’s Alex James… Read more & comment »

Challenge TV today announced that Simon Mayo will be taking on the role of host of cult hit quiz show Blockbusters.
The iconic series, which is being produced by Thames, will return to screens later this spring and is being filmed at Sky’s new production facility, Sky Studios.

As you are probably aware, Bob Holness, the former host of hit quiz show Blockbusters, passed away yesterday aged 84.
Bob had been in a nursing home following a series of strokes,
A statement issued by Bob’s family read, “He passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early hours.
“He leaves behind a loving wife, three children and seven grandchildren.
“Although Bob will be best remembered for being the host of the cult television programme Blockbusters, it should be mentioned Bob was also an accomplished theatre actor and his radio broadcasting career spanned over six decades.”
