The great and good of the soap world all gathered in London on Saturday night for The British Soap Awards 2012 and Eastenders has once again come out on top and been announced as the nation’s favourite soap! It was also a big night for Coronation Street who walked away with the biggest haul of gongs including Best Actress and Best Exit. Emmerdale also had a decent night picking up 3 awards including Best Actor and Best Storyline whilst Hollyoaks and Doctors were sadly left empty handed. Below is the full and official list of Winners from The British Soap Awards 2012.

As fans of Coronation Street will know, when Michelle Collins joined the cast as Stella Price, there was a bit of a hoohar about her Manchester accent, given that we’d formerly known Michelle as EastEnders’ Cindy Beale…
In fact, the issue of her accent at one point looked set to unseat Phil Collinson as the show’s executive producer, but as he predicted at the time, viewers eventually got used to Michelle’s accent.
However, former Corrie star Bradley Walsh – who played the role of Danny Baldwin – reignited the flames of the row at the British Soap Awards when he suggested there should be an award for accents in soap.

Last night saw the 13th annual British Soap Awards, and all the stars braved the wind and rain to take their seats for the spectacular event, held at the ITV studios in London, where UnrealityTV were on the red carpet to speak to them all before the ceremony started.
The EastEnders cast were surprisingly sparse when it came to the red carpet event, especially when compared to the huge Emmerdale crew that showed up en masse, but we managed to catch up with some of the Walford residents to clear up some old rumours and get some new gossip!

The date you can watch all your favorite soap stars gather for the prestigious and glamorous British Soap Awards 2012 has been announced.
The Oscars of the soap world will air on Wednesday 2nd May, days after the event itself takes place on the 28th April. Phillip Schofield will once again resume his role as master of ceremonies, as he tries to keep the gaggle of lively soap stars from the likes of Eastenders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale on their best behavior, whilst a host of special celebrity guests will be on hand to make or break the nervous nominees nights and announce the all important results.
