It’s been revealed today that Emmerdale character Laurel Thomas is set to be “brutally attacked” in a vicious car-jacking incident in an upcoming episode!

The drama begins when Laurel, who’s played by Charlotte Bellamy, learns of – and becomes embroiled in – Rhona Kirk’s addiction to painkillers, which will see the troubled vet seeking out drug dealers as her addiction worsens.

As fans of Emmerdale will most likely know, Diane Sugden’s (Elizabeth Estensen) daughter Bernice Blackstock is going to arrive unexpectedly in the village next Tuesday…

It’ll soon transpire that Bernice had come running home to mum because she’s having marital problems, and needs some breathing space away from her husband to figure out what she wants.

But of course, her arrival comes at a bad time for separated couple Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) and Ashley Thomas (John Middleton) because they are currently trying to get young Gabby settled into the routine of sharing her time between Laurel and Ashley’s respective homes.

As fans of Emmerdale will surely know, Bernice Blackstock – daughter of Rodney Blackstock and Diane Sugden – is headed back to the village, and ITV have now revealed more details of the storyline that brings her running back to her mum…

Apparently, Bernice (Samantha Giles) arrives at The Woolpack out of the blue, much to mum Diane’s (Elizabeth Estensen) surprise, but it quickly transpires – after Bernice bursts into tears – that this is no social call and Bernice has in fact left her husband.

However, what Bernice doesn’t immediately admit is that she’s been having an affair, which is something she has a previous history of! Emmerdale star Charlotte Bellamy has revealed to Soaplife that in forthcoming episodes, her character Laurel Thomas will be left devastated after her step-daughter Gabby accuses Laurel’s boyfriend Marlon (Mark Charnock) of hitting her!

While also revealing that Laurel will lose custody of Gabby – who frankly creeps me out, rather much like every child in every horror movie ever, including Damien out of the Omen – she began by explaining how things come to a dramatic stand off in the Thomas family.

She said, “Gabby’s taken a real dislike to Marlon. It’s not personal but, to Gabby, Marlon is the reason she, Arthur, Laurel and Ashley are no longer a happy family.

“I think the writers are handling this very well and very realistically. It’s what often happens when a family unravels.”

The bosses of Emmerdale have released a new and extended teaser video for the show’s forthcoming 40th anniversary celebrations which recaps the major storylines of the year so far, and offers a few hints at what’s to come…

In tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, Ashley Thomas (John Middleton) will be seen telling his children Gabby and Arthur that he and their mum Laurel won’t ever be getting back together.

Both Charlotte Bellamy and Kelvin Fletcher – who of course play Laurel Thomas and Andy Sugden respectively – have been talking about their characters’ love lives, or the lack of them, depending upon your point of view.

Starting with Charlotte, she’s told Inside Soap magazine that she doesn’t foresee a happy ending for her character and her vicar husband, Ashley (John Middleton).

As fans will know, Ashley and Laurel’s marriage has been under tremendous pressure since Ashley discovered that Laurel has feelings for pub chef Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock).
