Fans of Coronation Street will of course know that Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) has custody of baby Jake, given that although he’s biologically not hers, as she carried him and gave birth to him, legally speaking she’s his mother…

But Tina’s decision to keep baby Jake – who she’s renamed Joe – has of course broken Izzy Armstrong’s heart, and the Windass and Armstrong family have vowed to fight Tina through every court in the land to get the baby back.

It’s been revealed today that some members of the cast of Coronation Street have been swept up in the enthusiasm for the 5:2 Diet, which sees followers eating as normal five days a week, then restricting their calorie intake to 500 a day for women and 600 a day for men for two days…

Coronation Street star, Michelle Keegan, has revealed that since embarking on a surrogacy storyline in the show this year, she would now “never rule out” being a surrogate mother herself.

Coronation Street’s Cherylee Houston’s (Izzy Armstromg) secret heartbreak over father’s death

Coronation Street star Cherylee Houston is currently involved in one of the most heart-wrenching storylines her character, Izzy Armstrong, has endured throughout her short time on the cobbles of Coronation Street, all the while hiding her heartbreak from the tragedy of losing her father in real life.

Cherylee, who joined the cast of Corrie in 2010, phoned bosses at the award-winning ITV soap in tears on September 6th to tell them that her father, Bill Houston, had lost what had been a long battle with cancer, according to the Sun newspaper.

Corrie: Georgia May Foote on why Katy Armstrong will offer to have a baby for Izzy and Gary

Corrie star Georgia May Foote has revealed today why it is that her character Katy Armstrong offers to have a baby for her disabled sister Izzy (Cherylee Houston) who of course suffered a miscarriage recently.

As fans will know, after the harrowing loss of her baby, Izzy told her boyfriend Gary (Mikey North) that she couldn’t put herself through another pregnancy, which of course devastated him, but he vowed to stand by her and her decision.

However, Izzy’s sister Katy knows how much she wants a child, and will make her the offer of becoming a surrogate mother.

Georgia began explaining Katy’s motivation for doing so by saying, “Katy can see that Izzy and Gary are suffering, so she just wants to help.

There’s tragedy in store for Coronation Street residents Gary Windass and his girlfriend Izzy Armstrong next week when poor Izzy suffers a miscarriage.

As fans of the show will know, despite Izzy’s fears that Gary would be upset that she was pregnant, he was delighted at the news, and ever since, the couple have been happily planning their future together.

However, as mentioned, when Izzy (Cherylee Houston) collapses at work next week and is rushed to hospital, she and Gary will be devastated when doctors tell them that they’ve lost the baby.

As fans of Corrie will most likely know, Izzy Armstrong is about to discover that she’s pregnant, but her joy at the news is tempered by her worry over telling her boyfriend Gary Windass (Mikey North) who’s recently revealed that he doesn’t want kids.

Gary made the proclamation having spent just one evening babysitting infants Hope and Joseph after their parents, Fiz, Ches and Katy, were all struck down with ‘flu.

Corrie: Cherylee Houston is “absolutely thrilled” about Izzy Armstrong’s pregnancy!

Coronation Street star Cherylee Houston – who made history by becoming the soap’s first full-time actor with, and portraying a character with, a disability – has revealed that she’s “absolutely thrilled” that her character, Izzy Armstrong, is going to become pregnant.

However, as Cherylee – who has also starred in Doctors, The Bill, Holby City, Emmerdale and Little Britain – has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which is of course also her character’s condition, the show’s writers have been consulting medical experts with regard to how a pregnancy can affect sufferers of the degenerative connective tissue disorder.

Of the research being carried out by the show’s producers and writers, an insider told the Daily Mirror, “Corrie has never shied away from tackling sensitive storylines.

Corrie: Gary Windass and Izzy Armstrong are having a baby!

There’s to be the pitter patter of yet more tiny feet in the Armstrong family in forthcoming episodes of Coronation Street when Izzy Armstrong discovers she’s pregnant with Gary Windass’ baby!

Izzy is of course played by Cherylee Houston, who made history by becoming the soap’s first full-time disabled actress.

Cherylee suffers from a rare tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Type III hypermobility type, which has seen her confined to a wheelchair since she was 23 years old.

When she landed the role of Izzy in 2010, Cherylee said, “Attitudes are only just changing and TV is one of the last domains.

“There are nearly 10% of us in society, but hardly any of us on TV. I’m really proud to be joining Coronation Street and really excited too.

“But for me, more than anything, it is about being good at my job.”

Cherylee Houston praises Corrie writers


Coronation Street actress Cherylee Houston has praised the show’s writers for accurately portraying the kind of prejudices faced by disabled people.

While discussing her Corrie role on This Morning, Cherylee described how one of her first scenes saw her character Izzy encounter intolerance when the character of Gary Windass told Kirk Sutherland he’d had “a lucky escape” not to have been dating someone in a wheelchair.

Cherylee Houston on “preconceived ideas” about disability


Coronation Street’s first full-time cast member who’s disabled, Cherylee Houston, has blasted the “preconceived ideas” that people have about disability.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Cherylee – who plays Izzy Armstrong – explained that ignorance about disabled people often stems from fear of saying “the wrong thing.”

She said, “I have a rule of three. Either people will get over the wheelchair after meeting me three times, or they never will.

It seems that the bosses at Coronation Street are so pleased with how disabled actress Cherylee Houston has coped with her role, they’re to extend her contract and introduce her family as new characters.

35 year old Cherylee made history as the show’s first full-time character who’s disabled, and it seems that her character has proven so popular with viewers, that – although she was originally brought in only as a love interest for dopey Kirk – she’ll now be offered further storylines.
