Last Night’s TV – Reggie Perrin

reggie-perrin

This was awful. I don’t often begin my reviews with such negativity, but truly, as much as I love Martin Clunes in every other role he’s ever had, as Reggie Perrin, I’m afraid I feel he was grave robbing…

Well, maybe not him per se but certainly the commissioning editors at the BBC as well as Simon Nye and David Nobbs – who wrote the adaptation – certainly are; and actually, David Nobbs wrote the original Reggie Perrin series’, so what he was thinking, I can’t imagine!

I guess if you’ve never seen the original, then a) you won’t really get what’s going on and b) you might feel differently, but to remake Reggie was, in my opinion anyway, a big mistake; there can be only one Reggie Perrin and that’s the late, great Leonard Rossiter…

The Real Pink Panther: Lord Victor Hervey, 8:00pm, Channel 4

the-real-pink-pantherThe final film in Channel 4′s Toffs and Crims series, which explores the affinity between the upper echelons of society and the criminal underclass.

Victor Hervey, the sixth Marquis of Bristol, masterminded a gang of career criminals and then found himself at the Old Bailey on two counts of jewel theft.

It has long been believed that, when he was convicted in 1939 and sentenced to three years penal servitude, this was the end of Victor’s criminal ways. However, recently declassified police documents reveal that after he was released Victor may still have been involved in crime… Read more & comment »

FM: Review of the new ITV2 sitcom that didn’t turn my dials at all…

fm

Ok, I know it’s been a lot of years since radios had dials and in fact, many of you reading this will never actually have hunted around for a radio station using a dial and some teeny tiny movements in order to tune in without static, but – history lesson about radio tuning over – the fact is that this new ‘comedy’ simply isn’t funny, with one or two caveat exceptions in the form of one liners and Chris O’Dowd of The IT Crowd fame in the starring role.

ITV’s description of the show is as follows… Read more & comment »

Kath & Kim Series 4 – Exclusively On LIVING

KATH AND KIM

The hornbags are back for Series 4

With guest appearances from Matt Lucas, Eric Bana and Shane Warne

Kylie and Geoffrey Rush have both braved the hornbags in previous series, and now its time for Brit Matt Lucas (Little Britain), cricket legend Shane Warne and Hollywood actor Eric Bana to step on set; one as the supermodel half sister of Sharon (Lucas), one as Sharon’s boyfriend (Warne) and Eric Bana as himself. Peep Show Returns For Fourth Series!

Peep ShowThe multi award-winning and critically acclaimed hit comedy starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb returns to Channel 4 for a fourth series in 2007. The show will air on the 13th April.

Peep Show follows the private world of Mark (David Mitchell) and Jeremy (Robert Webb), two twenty-something flat-mates living in south London.

Mark is the sensible one – a professional brogue wearer with a slightly worrying interest in World War Two. Jeremy is the loose cannon – a lazy waster with dodgy friends – who dreams of becoming a musician but can never get his act together, or up in the morning.

As ever, their deepest, darkest thoughts and feelings are revealed as they try in vain to find their place in the modern world and to find love and fulfilment.

Having proposed by accident to Sophie (Olivia Colman), Mark now faces the horror of having to actually go through with the wedding. Or will he…? And when Jeremy’s beautiful ex ‘visa wife’, Nancy (Rachel Blanchard) unexpectedly turns up again, how far will he go to win her back?

The series also sees Mark spending a horrific weekend with Sophie’s argumentative parents, trying to get his gym instructor sacked (‘he touched me’), and getting involved in a spot of arson. Meanwhile, Jeremy performs some ‘handy’ work for a male pop star (with the emphasis on ‘handy’), does something pretty unspeakable to a dog, and worse of all – sleeps with Sophie’s mother.

If you take a visit to the Peep Show’s myspace page, there are some great videos on the page including a 10 min catch up of
series 1-3 and some signed scripts to be won.

A clip from series 4 has just been released and can be viewed at:
