Christmas is rarely a happy time for the people who live in soap land, and statistically, you’re more likely to give birth, die, or endure a natural disaster during the festive season than at any other time of the year.

And that scary fact is borne out by the news that on Boxing Day, Coronation Street resident Fiz Stape is going to lapse into a coma, the victim of carbon monoxide poisoning from her dodgy central heating boiler!

Which is bad news for her lover – they will be having a full-on affair by Christmas – Tyrone Dobbs, because he ‘fixed’ the boiler for Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) so not only will he bear the guilt of thinking he could be responsible for her life or death state, but questions may be asked that will doubtless clue his nutty fiancé Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede) into the fact he’s sleeping with Fiz… Read more & comment »

Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has been talking to the Radio Times about her character Fiz Stape, and the fact that as we near Christmas, Fiz is going to embark on a hugely dangerous affair with her former lover, Tyrone Dobbs…

And it is of course a dangerous liaison because Tyrone is engaged to nutcase Kirsty Soames, who’s proved time and time again that she’s prone to violence when crossed.

So learning that her nemesis Fiz has been sleeping with Tyrone (Alan Halsall) would most assuredly send Kirsty hurtling over the edge, and could even result in both Fiz and Tyrone’s lives being in danger at the hands of the ex-copper.

And soon after Tyrone and Fiz become lovers again – they formerly dated in the 90s – they’re nearly caught out when Kirsty (Natalie Gumede) organises a surprise birthday party for Ty, and when she goes home to take him to his party, she has no idea that Fiz is in her house! Read more & comment »

It was reported over the weekend that at Christmas, poor Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) is going to end up fighting for her life after she slips into a coma when she inhales deadly carbon monoxide!

The storyline will apparently begin when Fiz asks her mate Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) to take a look at her dodgy central heating boiler…

But of course, Tyrone’s a mechanic, not a gas boiler engineer, and he doesn’t correctly repair it, so the deadly fumes leak out, unbeknownst to Fiz. But luckily, when the incident occurs, baby Hope will be staying with her uncle Chesney (Sam Aston) and so will of course be safe.

The Daily Mirror report that the show’s bosses have been taking advice from the Gas Safe Register organization in order to make the plot as believable as possible, and to raise awareness to the dangers of carbon monoxide.

Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson has teased fans of the show, saying that Christmas on the cobbles will be “amazing!”

Revealing that Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Leanne Barlow (Jane Danson) will be at the heart of the festive storylines with a will-they-won’t-they marry plotline, Collinson also revealed that the return of Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and Carla Connor (Alison King) is set to put the cat among the pigeons with regard to Leanne and Nick’s big day.

He also hinted that there’s a very big yuletide storyline for the Platt family, saying that “a dark secret” will be exposed, and when it is, it could “blow the Platts apart.”

And while speaking to the Daily Star, Paula Lane, who of course plays feisty Kylie Platt, has offered further teasers, saying, “I can’t say much, but viewers will see Kylie is trying to up her game in the world.
