As fans of EastEnders star David Witts – who of course plays Joey Branning – he won the National Television Award for Best Newcomer on Wednesday night…
However, modest David has revealed that although he was very flattered to have won the award, he’s something of a fish out of water when it comes to the limelight.
Speaking to the Radio Times after winning the award, David said, “I was very nervous coming. I’m very much out of my comfort zone being a ‘celebrity’ for the night.

Last night saw the 18th annual National Television Awards at London’s O2 arena, and what a night it was.
All the stars were out in force to celebrate the highly acclaimed ceremony, with some of them having too much fun…

EastEnders bosses have of course never shied away from controversial storylines, and in the past, there have been rapes, murders, teenaged pregnancies, AIDS plotlines and child abuse…
So having cousins Joey and Lauren Branning hooking up was perhaps a bit of light relief!
And this week, David Witts, who of course plays Joey, has told the Radio Times that he hopes the romance between his character and Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) will continue for a long time yet, given that it’s been something of a slow burner up until now.

As fans of EastEnders will know, Patsy Palmer is now back at work on the show after taking several months off from the soap and her role as downtrodden single mum, Bianca Jackson.
We’ll see Bianca’s return to the Square – she has of course been in prison – early in December, but it seems her status as a single parent isn’t about to change any time soon, given that Sid Owen, who played Bianca’s husband Ricky Butcher, has left the show.
But apparently, Patsy is hoping that he might make a comeback at some point in the future, and she thinks that if he doesn’t, her character Bianca will remain loveless, because Ricky is “the only man” for her.
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, Patsy said, “I think Ricky will always be the man for Bianca – they’re such a great couple!

Cousins Lauren and Joey Branning are of course currently in the midst of an intense romance, but given that they’re actually related, understandably, they aren’t keen to share the news of the relationship…
But as we’ll see in tonight’s episode, when Lauren and Joey (David Witts) have an horrific car crash, Joey’s dad Derek (Jamie Foreman) helps to rescue them from the wrecked motor, and within minutes of freeing them, he’s going to manipulate the accident to his own advantage.
That’s because he now knows they’re lovers, having spotted them kissing in last night’s episode, so he’s set to tell Joey that if he doesn’t ditch Lauren, he’ll tell the police that it was in fact Lauren who was driving, and that she was drunk. As fans of EastEnders will no doubt be aware, Joey and Lauren Branning, who’ve just embarked on a romance, are set to have a car crash this week, and ever the opportunist, Joey’s dad Derek (Jamie Foreman) manages to get something he wants out of the near tragedy!
As we’ll see in the dramatic storyline, Joey and Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) crash into a shop front on the square, and as it happens after Lauren’s been drinking, quick thinking Derek – who helps pull the couple from the wreckage of the car – says they must tell the police that Joey was driving…

Fans of EastEnders will know that there’s little love lost between Derek Branning and his son Joey, and since he turned up in Walford, Joey (David Witts) has done everything and anything he can to annoy, humiliate and generally put down his dad…
