As this week’s TV is dominated by football it’s becoming harder and harder to seek out TV highlights however there are still some gems in the schedule if you look hard enough.

Desperate Housewives (E4, Sun, 10pm)
So after eight years of outrageous behaviour, jumps into the future and numerable affairs its time to say goodbye to the girls of Wisteria Lane as Huffman, Hatcher, Longoria and Cross all bid us adieu. In true Desperate Housewives style there is plenty going on including a birth, a death and a wedding as well as the usual supernatural twist in a ‘ghosts of Wisteria Lane’ section. Pivotal to all of this though is Karen McClusky here is terminally ill and is the star of the final episode by far made even more poignant by the death of actress Kathryn Joosten. As some may say this is the end of an era however I feel the show did have a good run and is leaving before it became too preposterous for its own good.

Award winning actress, Kathryn Joosten, star of Desperate Housewives, has sadly passed away aged 72 after a long battle with lung cancer.

Joosten, who played Karen McCluskey in the hit show, won two Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy Awards in 2005 & 2008  for her Wysteria Lane role , as well starring as secretary Mrs Landingham in The West Wing, and Aunt Jackie  in the blockbuster kids film, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.

“Desperate Housewives” is coming to an end and it’s set to be an emotional double bill, when the long running drama series says goodbye with a double bill next week.

On May 13th ABC will dedicate two hours of their schedule to the hit show and Wisteria Lane will be the place to be, for all fans.

Renee is preparing for her wedding day and everything seems to be in order, however Julie throws a spanner in the works and sends Renee, her mum Susan and neighbour Gabby into a panic when her waters break as they travel to the ceremony. Will they make it to the church on time, or is a hospital visit on the cards?

Desperate Housewives is coming to an end but it seems that Teri Hatcher isn’t going to take much of a break after the much loved series dies.

The former ‘Lois & Clark’ actress has been one of the central characters on DS, since its premiere on ABC on October 3, 2004 and she must have enjoyed her time there, as it has been confirmed that now she will be keeping her loyalty within the ABC network.

Teri Hatcher, star of the iconic Desperate Housewives series, has come out and said that the show finale “makes sense” to her and that she feels it will do the characters justice.

The hit American ABC show, which will air its final scene in the US in May,  officially completed filming last week, and Hatcher spoke to US Magazine, People,  commenting: ”I feel like [the series finale] does a pretty good job at honouring all the different characters and their sort of unique wheelhouses that they brought… to Desperate Housewives.

As fans of Desperate Housewives will most likely know, actress Nicollette Sheridan – who played Edie Britt – is embroiled in a bitter legal battle with the show’s creator, Marc Cherry, who she alleges assaulted her and axed her from the show.

And during a hearing in an LA court yesterday – to decide the outcome of Nicollette’s case against Cherry for assault and wrongful dismissal – one of the show’s executive producers revealed which major character dies in the final season of Desperate Housewives.

Also in court yesterday, Cherry denied that he hit Sheridan during filming on September 24, 2008, and he also denied that her complaints about him led him to kill her character off.

Actress Eva Longoria and comedienne Tina Fey have been named by Forbes.com as Hollywood’s highest earning females.

Eva and Tina – who star in Desperate Housewives and 30 Rock respectively – are quoted as having earned £8.3million last year.

Coming in as the third highest earning actress was Eva’s Desperate Housewives co-star, Marcia Cross, while the show’s other stars Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman shared fifth place. Read more & comment »

Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross has claimed that her cast mates, including Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria and Felicity Huffman, are “in denial” over the news that the show is ending.

Marcia, who plays Bree Van der Kamp, told Digital Spy that it was left to her to break the news to her co-stars.

She said, “I said to all the girls, ‘they are making an announcement about the show and they don’t make an announcement unless there is something to announce’.

Desperate Housewives’ will come to an end in 2012.

It has been confirmed that the long running drama series – set in Wisteria Lane in the fictional American town of Fairview in the Eagle State – will end next May, after it’s final eighth series comes to an end.

ABC President Paul Lee said: “It’s an iconic show and we’re extremely proud of it. I just wanted to make sure it had its victory lap.”

A dinner party thrown for Susan to celebrate her move back onto Wisteria Lane leads to a shocking murder. Gaby is stunned to learn the identity of the mysterious man who has been stalking her. Lynette and Tom try to put the spark back into their marriage by spending a few days alone at a B&B. After being placed under arrest for allegedly poisoning Paul, Susan must convince the police that she was being framed for the deed by Felicia. Bree begins to suspect that her new boyfriend may be gay, and Renee is devastated when she learns that her ex-husband is getting re-married. Last in the series.

Lynette and Tom feel that it’s time for twins Porter and Preston to move out and become responsible adults. But the boys end up moving out to a place that’s a little too close to home. Meanwhile, as part of Gaby’s therapy, she and Carlos pay a visit to her hometown to confront her past. Keith asks Bree to move to Florida with him to be closer to his son. Susan uses her health issues to get special treatment in public places and after sending son Zach to rehab, Paul makes a decision about his life with Beth.

Wednesday 11th May, Channel 4, 11pm

The police have reason to believe Susan and Felicia were poisoning Paul; Tom and Lynette learn that a couple are going through a rough patch; Gaby gets the feeling she is being followed; Bree learns something about Chuck’s relationship with men.

Teri Hatcher has admitted that she currently has no less than three guys calling her for dates.

The ‘Desperate Housewives’ star – who has a 13-year-old daughter Emerson with her second husband Jon Tenney – has made herself more available to the opposite sex in recent months and admits that she is trying ‘different ways’ of finding love.

Teri – who was also previously married to Marcus Leithold – thinks she has been reluctant to commit to new relationships in the past but is now keen to find love again.

Eva Longoria and her co-stars treated the ‘Desperate Housewives’ crew to burgers on the last day of filming of the new season.

The actress – who plays Gabrielle Solis in the drama series – arranged for the Fatburger truck to visit the set and serve up a feast of calorific treats as a reward to the team for all their hard work.

Accompanied by a photo of her and three of her co-stars, Tuc Watkins, Kevin Rahm and Vanessa Williams, she wrote on her twitter page: “Last day of shooting on set for this season! So we got the Fatburger truck to come out and make burgers for the crew!”
