Last night saw The Big Bang Theory finale pip the finale of American Idol to the top spot, but only by 400,000 viewers.
It wasn’t a winning night for The CW meanwhile as the finale of The Vampire Diaries and Beauty and the Beast ended up at the bottom of the overall table.

If there’s one thing I’m surprised by it’s the recent revival of the Sherlock Holmes character which begun with Guy Ritchie’s film in 2009 and continued with the BBC TV series in 2010. While the film kept the setting and time period in Conan Doyle’s original, the TV series updated the stories in a modern day setting and garnered critical praise in the process. So the announcement that CBS were to make their own updated version of Sherlock Holmes, complete with a female Dr Watson, was met with plenty of scepticism. Elementary moves Sherlock across the pond to New York but have kept his accent the same casting English actor Jonny Lee Miller in the role of the legendary sleuth.

With both Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch and Lara Pulver recently calling time on their long-term relationships, not long after that naked scene we might add, it really was only a matter of time, we think, until their on-screen chemistry spilled over to their personal lives.
And it has!

Benedict Cumberbatch – who of course stars in Sherlock and Parade’s End – is hot TV property right now, but if a report in the Daily Express today is to be believed, he’s about to land a role in the new James Bond film which is sure to make him hot Hollywood property too!
And even better, he’s reportedly set to play a villain in the 24th film in the franchise which of course stars Daniel Craig as the legendary spy, 007.
I hope it’s true because I’d love to see him playing a baddie! Would you? But there, I know that to his devoted Twitter followers, @Cumberbitches, Benedict is already licensed to thrill!
As Benedict himself remarked earlier this year, he’s usually offered roles as the quintessential English gent, so it’ll be interesting to see him in a different role.
A source from the film’s production team told the paper, “Benedict is considered perfect Bond villain material… Read more & comment »
July 30th, 2012 by TV Writer Lynn. Tags: Benedict Cumberbatch, CBS, Elementary, Sherlock

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has previously refused to give an opinion on the much criticised American adaptation of the classic detective story – which is entitled, Elementary – until now that is, and his verdict is that he sees no reason why the two shows shouldn’t “co-exist.”
Elementary, which will air on CBS, stars Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as sidekick Joan Watson. In addition, it’s set in modern day New York, which is just one of the facts about the adaptation that has angered Conan Doyle purists.
However, while speaking to US website TV Line, Benedict said, “If I were the [producer of Elementary], I’d be frightened of the dynamic of male friendship that you’d lose… Read more & comment »

It’s been revealed today that the US remake of classic detective story Sherlock Holmes – which is entitled, Elementary – will air on Sky Living this autumn.
Elementary stars Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu as Sherlock and Watson respectively, and since news of the adaptation was revealed last year, fans of the UK version of Sherlock – which of course stars Benedict Cumberbatch – and Conan Doyle purists have expressed discontent at the fact that in Elementary, the role of Watson is played by a woman.
It’s also set in modern day New York, and as far as Sherlock UK’s creator Steven Moffat is concerned, American network CBS have taken one liberty too far with the fundaments of the story.
While attending the Royal Television Society Awards earlier this year, and when asked about the US remake, Moffat said, “It isn’t a version of our show. They’ve just decided to go off and do one of their own, having been turned down by us to do an adaptation of our version… Read more & comment »

Steven Moffat, the genius creator behind the phenomenal Benedict Cumberbatch modern-day twist on Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock, has come out and criticised the American rip-off remake, Elementary, currently in production.
Elementary, which has much of the same format of Sherlock, is being produced by a separate company in America, and is not approved or connected to the hit BBC drama, and Moffat has warned that he is prepared to “take action” against it if there are too many similarities, or if the show makes Sherlock look bad.

Fans of Sherlock Holmes have been infuriated that a US remake of the hit – and quintessentially British – drama will feature a woman in the role of Sherlock’s sidekick, Watson.
Lucy Liu – who found fame in US comedy drama Ally McBeal – has reported been cast in the role of “disgraced former surgeon” Joan Watson, while British actor Jonny Lee Miller has been cast in the role of Holmes.
Made by American network CBS, the new take on the drama is to be entitled, Elementary, and set in modern-day New York.
However, the Daily Star reports that British fans of the show have “swamped” internet forums and social networking sites to blast the “political correctness gone mad” move in casting Liu in the role and for giving Holmes “substance abuse problems”.
One fan wrote, “Watson’s a girl? Holmes in REHAB? I’m guessing ‘Mrs Hudson’ will be a gay man… Read more & comment »
January 19th, 2012 by TV Writer Lynn. Tags: BBC, CBS, Elementary, Sherlock

In today’s edition of the Sun, Sherlock writer Steven Moffat reckons that fans of the show missed a “vital clue” about the circumstances in which Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) faked his own suicide.
Theories as to the mechanics of the dupe include one in which it’s claimed there are secretly two Sherlocks, or that the detective threw a dummy version of himself off the roof.
The paper adds, “Another is that the Baskerville drug was administered to Watson. Some also reckon it means Sherlock’s nemesis, Moriarty, is also not dead.”
However, Moffat teased, “There’s one clue everyone has missed. It’s something Sherlock did that was out of character but which nobody has picked up on…” Read more & comment »
