There has been no official confirmation that Grey’s Anatomy is returning for a ninth season and we have to admit, we were getting slightly worried by rumours that some of the show’s biggest stars were considering jumping ship at the end of the current run.

However, Deadline today reports that all our favourites will be back for another series next year, claiming that Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson have all inked new deals which will see them not only starring in one upcoming run, but will also have them re-upped for two more years. So we may even get a season ten out of them!

Both actors have signed contracts up until season eight of the medical drama, but admitted that after that, they unsure of whether they will return as Derek Shepherd and Meredith Grey.

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo has revealed that her character Meredith, will act as a ‘caretaker’ during season seven of the show.

After saving Owen Hunt who was shot by a crazed gunman in the season six finale and going on to miscarry her own baby, Ellen says that Meredith will try to help other doctors recover from the traumatic events which struck Seattle Grace hospital.

With Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo heavily pregnant, rumours have abounded that she will be taking on a reduced role on the upcoming season of the show and that this will lead to a break up between Meredith and Derek.

But fear not! The newly, sort of married pair will stay together, but they will fade into the background a bit to allow Ellen a bit of rest.
