Coronation Street, Eastenders and Emmerdale are of course famous for their dramatic storylines that often end in someone’s death, so we thought we might take a look at some of the more grisly endings that soap characters have met over the years. For that reason, we’re not including deaths by natural causes… just in case you read this and think, ‘they missed that one out!’
We’ll kick off with Emmerdale and in fact, the very first episode of the show, which aired on October 16th, 1972, featured the funeral of Annie Sugden’s husband, Jacob, albeit that his end was from drinking himself into his box.

However, one of the best multi-death disasters ever shown on UK soap was the plane crash in Emmerdale – or Beckindale as the village was known then – in December, 1993.
It resulted in the deaths of Mark Hughes, Elizabeth Pollard, Archie Brooks and Leonard Kempinski. After the crash, Chris Tate was left confined to a wheelchair.

81 year old actor, Freddie Jones is to make a return to ITV1 soap opera, Emmerdale.
Freddie quit the role of Sandy Thomas in March this year but has been lured back with the promise of a dramatic storyline with on-screen granddaughter Jasmine Thomas (Jenna-Louise Coleman) and son Ashley Thomas (John Middleton).

Former Emmerdale actor Ben Freeman - cleared last week of raping a girl he met on holiday in Barbados - has spoken to This Morning exclusively about the two year ordeal which destroyed his life and relief at having now cleared his name.
On the moment he received the unanimous not - guilty verdict, 28-year-old Ben said:
“It was a strange feeling when they said they’d reached a verdict …it certainly didn’t sink in straight away, it was a bit of a numb feeling really. It had been two long years that me and my family went through. It wasn’t some joyous moment. I just looked straight ahead, listened to what the judge had to say and walked out. Former Emmerdale star, Ben Freeman, has spoken out about his emotions following being cleared of raping a girl two years ago.
Although Ben in obviously relieved at the verdict, Ben added that he is also feeling angry at losing a full two eyars of his life.
Speaking to reporters outside the court Ben stated:
“I’m not really feeling happiness. I’m angry because I was accused of rape in the first place and I never did it. Everything in my life was falling apart and it was all based on lies. It was complete horror.”

Wife beater, Andy Sugden almost gets a taste of his own medicine this week as Zac Dingle threatens to knock his block off.
Andy has recently spilt up with wife, Jo after months of abusing her both physically and mentally and is trying to hold onto custody of his daughter Sarah.
The Dingles, and Debbie in particular, are hoping to bring Sarah back into the fold and don’t want her living with violent Andy.
So will Zac do his worst on Andy? I really hope so!!!

Former Emmerdale actor, Ben Freeman has been cleared of raping a sixteen year old girl during a holiday in Barbados two years ago.
Since the accusations emerged Ben has been ‘let go’ from Emmerdale and lost his slot on ITV TV show, Dancing On ice.
During the trial the 28-year-old actor admitted he knew the English girl was 16 at the time but said she never resisted his advances as claimed.
The jury took 90 minutes to reach a unanimous not guilty verdict.

Emma Davies has confirmed that she will be leaving ITV soap, Emmerdale later this year.
The actress joined the soap as Anna DeSouza earlier this year said that playing the character has been “a joy from start to finish”.
The 38-year-old added: “I’ve enjoyed being part of such a fantastic, hard-working and super talented team.
“I’ve made some great friends who I will of course miss very much but I’m excited about getting stuck into filming the culmination of Anna’s story.”

Andy Sugden is one bad apple!! After subjecting his wife to months of physical and mental abuse,this week he tells Diane Sugden that Jo has been trying to kill him!
Andy was injured as he chased Jo whilst in a rage and impaled himself on a rusty spike. But he wakes in hospital this week and decides to get his own back on Jo by accusing her of attempted murder. Read more & comment »
