Chief Superintendent Bright has a spring in his step after learning that HRH Princess Margaret is to visit Oxford. The Princess is visiting a Cowely factory to unveil the British Imperial Electric Company’s latest weapon of mass destruction – the ‘standfast’ MK II Missile. However Morse, who is still languishing on General Duties, is excluded from the event.

The popular prequel for the Inspector Morse series, Endeavour, has been commissioned for a new series, ITV have today confirmed!
Set in 1965, the series centres around the early career of Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans) after leaving his Oxford college without taking a degree, spending a short time in the Royal Corps of Signals, and then joining the police.

There’s great news for fans of Inspector Morse spin-off Endeavour because, following an “overwhelming response” to the recent one-off, the broadcaster commissioned a full new series!
Endeavour stars Shaun Evans who won critical acclaim for his portrayal of a young Morse, and he will of course be returning to film the four new feature length episodes which are being written by Lewis creator and Morse writer Russell Lewis.
Acclaimed stage and screen actor Roger Allam also returns as Endeavour’s senior partner, Detective Inspector Fred Thursday. Stage actor Sean Rigby is set to take on the role of a young PC Strange (James Grout) who first appeared in the original Morse series.
James Bradshaw also returns as Dr Max Debryn, and John Thaw’s daughter Abigail will be making further guest appearances as Dorothea Frazil. The new supporting cast will include Anton Lesser as Chief Supt Reginald Bright and Jack Laskey as DS Peter Jakes… Read more & comment »

The Sun’s TV Biz reports today that ITV is set to commission a new series of Inspector Morse given that the recently aired prequel to the Morse story, which was entitled ‘Endeavour’, proved a huge hit with viewers.
Starring Shaun Evans in the role of young copper Morse, around 6.5million of us tuned in to the one-off drama, which starred John Thaw’s daughter Abigail in a cameo role.
John, who of course played Inspector Morse, passed away in 2002, and of her role in Endeavour, Abigail said, “I was quite nervous coming in for my scene but Sean made me feel extremely welcome.
“Being the daughter of the original Morse, I could have been a rather boring pain in the backside for him. But Shaun was just so nice.” Read more & comment »

The daughter of John Thaw – who of course played Inspector Morse – has been cast in a new series about the younger years of the fictional detective.
John’s daughter Abigail, who’s 45, will star alongside Shaun Evans who plays the young Inspector in Endeavour, which is to air next year.
The Sun adds, “And Abigail has been giving Shaun tips on how to capture her dad’s version of the detective.”
Shaun said, “Abigail’s a brilliant actress in her own right. It was amazing having her on set.
“I tried not to think about how big John’s boots are to fill. I hope I did it justice.”
John died in 2002 aged 60 after a battle with throat cancer.

Acclaimed star of stage and screen ROGER ALLAM (The Iron Lady, The Thick of It, The Queen) joins the cast of Endeavour as Morse’s partner Detective Inspector Fred Thursday.
The two hour single film from Mammoth Screen will be filmed on location in Oxford and will mark the 25th anniversary of the very first episode of Morse.
Endeavour is written by Russell Lewis (creator of Lewis, Kavanagh QC and Cadfael, and writer of Inspector Morse, Spooks and Murphy’s Law) and is made by Mammoth Screen for ITV1.
