Oh let joy be unconfined! The dazzlingly fabulous George Clooney will reprise his role as Dr Doug Ross for the final episode of ER which will air in the US on April 2nd

ER: Another Thursday at County

dr banfield

The second episode of the much awaited – certainly by me – new season of ER began with Dr Morris introducing the new batch of interns to the ER. We also met ball-breaker Catherine Banfield – pictured above – the new chief of the ER which would’ve been Greg’s job had he not shuffled off the mortal coil last week.

Banfield is played by Oscar-nominated Angela Bassett but I have to say, I didn’t feel the love for her character at all. Dr Banfield was all suppressed emotions and fierce will of iron stuff which felt a bit trite and predictable, however, maybe I’ll warm to her before the series ends… Read more & comment »

Hello – Goodbye – ER

ER

Well, ER has often had me in tears in the past with its evocative and convincing drama and upset and the season 15 premiere last night was no different. Not only is this the final season of this fantastic show, it was also the last time we’ll see Greg Pratt, and that’s what made me cry.

The writers and cast of ER are masters at doing the dying in the trauma room routine and the death of Greg was a true marvel of tearjerking. For one thing, it was totally unexpected because – unlike my normal behaviour with US shows – I deliberately avoided looking at any spoilers, so when Greg was injured in the ambulance crash then seemed to have relatively minor injuries, for him to so rapidly decline and become brain stem dead was truly shocking. Why we all love a medical drama

It’s a strange phenomenon the medical drama because as a genre, it’s one of the most successful and popular types of show you can get. If you’ve got blood, guts and medical staff, chances are you’ve got yourself a hit series.

Emergency Ward 10

Emergency Ward 10

Since TV began there’s been show after show based in either hospitals or Doctor’s surgeries. One of the earliest of these to be shown on UK television was Emergency Ward 10 which first aired in 1957 and ran for ten years. Set in the fictitious Oxbridge General Hospital, the show focused on the lives and loves of the medical staff and the pressure of their work, as well as the patient’s stories, and it’s a format that was to provide the blueprint for hundreds of other shows.

Anthony Edwards (Mark Greene) Returning To ER

I knew the doctors from County General Hospital’s ER were good at their job, but I never would have suspected that they could bring back the dead.

ER returns to US TV screens this November for its final series and as part of it’s farewell to fans it will be bringing back Mark Greene, one of its most popular characters.

The twist is of course that Mark died several series ago, but thankfully they won’t be chancing a back from the dead storyline. Mark will appear in a series of flashbacks that have something to do with a new character played by Angela Bassett. The flashbacks will consist of all new footage and not old scenes already aired. ER May Return For 15th Season!

Most American TV shows have been hit badly by the recent writers strike, but ER may have managed to score a whole new season from the ordeal.

At the party to celebrate the shows 300th episode, executive producer John Wells announced that he was in the process of discussing a possible 15th season of the show with NBC, despite plans to end the show FOREVER after the 14th.

The reason for the new series is that only 11 of the 22 planned episodes for series 14 have been written. So the series will most likely end as abruptly as most others, but return for a shorter, but no doubt exciting, season 15!

ER: Lights Out

Pratt gets a scare when his brother unexpectedly shows up in the ER. And the tension between Gates and his father reaches boiling point.
