Fans of hugely popular but now defunct sitcom Gavin & Stacey have of course been hoping that the show’s writers, Ruth Jones and James Corden, would pen at least a new Christmas special if not a full series…
And the Hollywood Reporter claims they are about to do just that – or at least, they’ll be involved in the production – but sadly, it’s for a US remake of the show, and not for UK audiences.
Ruth and James will be executive producers for the remake, but the script is set to be written by David Rosen for the Fox network.
However, Ruth and James, who of course played the roles of Nessa and Smithy, will not appear on-screen in the US version… Read more & comment »

Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon – who oplayed Uncle Bryn in the hit sitcom – reckons that the chances of any new episodes of the show have been scuppered since its two leading actors have lost so much weight.
He is of course referring to the co-writers and stars of the show, Ruth Jones who played Nessa, and James Corden who played Smithy, both of whom look completely different now they’ve slimmed down.
Ruth has gone from being a hefty 17 stones to just over 9, while James has dropped from 21 stones to 16.
Speaking to the Sun about Ruth and James’ transformations, Rob said, “It’ll be tricky now, as a lot of what worked about Nessa was her weight… Read more & comment »

However, while speaking to the Sun, Rob Brydon, who starred as Bryn, has slated the idea, branding it, “a bit pants,” and adding, “It was perfect, leave it like that.”

December 2nd, 2011 by TV Writer Lynn. Tags: Gavin and Stacey, James Corden, Ruth Jones
When Gavin and Stacey first aired, I somehow managed to miss every episode, but of late, I’ve been watching it from start to finish on Gold, and have fallen in love with it…
So I was horrified when I realized that there were only ever three series of the show, the finale of which featured a heavily pregnant Stacey (Joanna Page) and Ness on the verge of falling for Smithy.
Ness and Smithy were of course played by Ruth Jones and James Corden, who also wrote the show.
So it was a case of joy to the world when I read this morning that Ruth has promised to pen a Christmas special of the show in time for next year’s festive season.
I would be, quite literally, cock-a-hoop, if I only had a hoop and a…. yeah, well, never mind.
Anyway, while speaking to the Daily Star about the possibility of more Gavin and Stacey, Ruth revealed that she and James had originally planned to write a festive special for this year, but due to their various work commitments, they ran out of time.
She said, “We will definitely be doing another Gavin and Stacey. There was just too much occurring!
“We want to do a Christmas special but it keeps getting moved back… Read more & comment »

In the new show, which is entitled, The Syndicate, Joanna plays the role of supermarket worker Leanne who, along with some of her co-workers, wins the lottery jackpot, making them all rich overnight.
The show, which will air on BBC1 next year, will also star Timothy Spall in the role of Bob, who finds that money can’t buy everything. Timothy of course previously starred in Auf Weidersehn Pet.
Written by Kay Mellor – Gaynor Faye’s award winning writer mum – What’s On TV magazine report that Kay said, “I was inspired to write it after a friend of mine was told she was losing her job.
“With a mortgage to pay and outstanding debts her only hope was to win the Lottery. It made me think how many people were thinking the same.
“As cuts hit hard we’re left with only a dream of six numbered balls deciding our fate – what strange times we are living in!
“It’s both funny and tragic; a perfect recipe for great drama.” Read more & comment »
