Hollyoaks bosses have shelled out mega bucks to keep sexy Jennifer Metcalfe.
The Daily Star reports that Jennifer, who plays Mercedes McQueen held out after her on screen sisters Gemma Merna and Claire Cooper signed up for another year.
Metcalfe told the newspaper: “I’ve literally just signed a new contract, so I’m staying put.
Former Eastenders actress Gemma Bissix has said that she is not unhappy with always playing evil characters on UK soaps.
The 25-year-old actress, who played Clare Bates in EastEnders and has just returned to her role as Clare Devine in Hollyoaks, admitted that she’s just happy to be working.
She said: “Without sounding too cynical – you have to go where the work is, I suppose.”
She continued: “I’d like to dip into different parts and try different things but, at the same time, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it – that’s what they say apparently.”
Gemma Bissix has revealed in an interview with the Press Association that she’s “excited” about making a comeback to Hollyoaks after being away from the show for two years.
The 25 year old will again take up the role of Clare Devine/Cunningham, and said: “It’s exciting stuff to come back and play Clare.
“I don’t think I’ve ever found a character like her – there’s no limit as far as she’s concerned and in these episodes in particular she’s come back slightly unhinged and there isn’t much that gets in her way and that’s what I think is so exciting.”
Gemma mad her first appearance in the soap in 2006 and quickly became a firm favourite with the Chester based soap as her character became “one of the most malicious” in the show’s history… Read more & comment »
Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas has admitted he will miss bad boy Warren Fox when he leaves the Channel 4 soap.
Speaking ahead of his sensational exit next month, Jamie said: “He’s been my life for the last three years and it’s been a bit weird putting him to bed and it’ll take some time to shake him off I think.
“I’m going to miss him tremendously, I loved playing him and the writers did such a great job with him and wrote some amazing storylines.”
Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson – who plays bad lad Ste – has revealed that he doesn’t want the script writers to make his character “turn good”.
It seems that the plan is for bad boy Ste Hay to change his ways and be a role-model good dad to his new son Lucas, but Kieron reckons it’s just not Ste’s style to be “too good” and is quoted on the Press Association website as saying…
“I don’t want to turn good, I want to stay like in between on the border of good and bad as I think it would just get a bit boring playing a nice character who doesn’t do anything wrong – I like being involved in controversy.” Read more & comment »
Jamie Lomas has revealed that he is looking forward to leaving Channel 4 soap, Hollyoaks and fully intends to fit in some relaxation time.
“I’m really looking forward to a break,” Lomas said. “I did Dream Team before this so I’ve worked solidly for five years.”
He continued: “Some weeks you’re in 12 hours a day, five days a week, and at the weekend you’re doing personal appearances.”
Gemma Bissix is returning to Hollyoaks this spring. Gemma is bouncing back from one failed return to Eastenders but luckily for her, Hollyoaks bosses were never ones to turn away bad actresses.
Clare Devine (aka the grim reaper!) return coincides with the departures of Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) and Justin Burton (Chris Fountain), who pushed her off the balcony at The Loft. The pair get caught up in a fire at The Loft and it looks likely that Clare is somehow involved.
The News Of The World broke the story yesterday that Channel 4 bosses are planning to axe ten Hollyoaks characters this year in a cost cutting exercise.
“It’s a nightmare. Everyone’s character is under scrutiny and there will be around ten changes so a lot of people are looking over their shoulders,” a cast member said.
A source added: “Everyone’s keeping their head down and doing their best in the hope they’ll be saved from the chop.”
Channel 4 have confirmed that Hollyoaks hotties Jamie Lomas and Chris Fountain are leaving the show.
The pair’s final scenes will air on the 29th of May when an old enemy of Warren returns to settle a score.
Jamie said: “I’ve had a fantastic three years at Hollyoaks but having fully explored the character I felt the time was right for me to move on. I’ve enjoyed being part of the Hollyoaks cast where I’ve made some brilliant friends and worked with some great people.

Hollyoaks recent arrival, Kelly-Marie Stewart has revealed that she hated being labelled as the shows first disabled cast member.
The 24-year-old actress, who will star as Zak’s sister Hayley in the Channel 4 soap is in a wheelchair as a result of Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
Kelly said: “Obviously, it wasn’t that nice to be labelled because at the end of the day we cast for 18 months for it and I worked hard to get it, so for it to be just taken off like that was not really perceived in the right way.
Hollyoaks actress, Gemma Merna has admitted that she would like her character, Carmel McQueen to have smaller storylines this year on the Channel 4 TV show.
Carmel has been at the centre of many of Hollyoaks big dramas in 2008 and Gemma is hoping for a queiter 2009.
“This last year has been mental for me,” Merna told the Daily Star. “The McQueens have had a huge year and I have been in the middle of it. It’s been great, don’t get me wrong, but it has been absolutely exhausting.
"I would like to see Carmel and Calvin settle down in the New Year and start to enjoy being married. I don't think they are ready at all to have children, but you never know what the future holds for them. They are a popular couple and if you ask me they are the best in the show - but I guess I would say that."
Asked about her own personal life, Merna replied: "I feel very lucky with everything I have got in both work and at home. Everything is just the way I had hoped and I just want that to carry on into next year."
Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, is introducing a new character who is in a wheelchair and suffering from the same disease as the actress that plays her.
Kelly-Marie Stewart has been hired to play Zak’s sister Hayley, she suffers from Guillain-Barre Syndrome – a disease which effects the nervous system.
We will be watching Hayley on the TV show from January 2009 and will be mistaken by Zak’s girlfriend Michaela as a love rival.
Former Hollyoaks star, Hannah Tointon has said that she doesn’t mind people still calling her Katy, despite the fact that she has left the soap.
Hannah told MSN: “People still call me Katy and stuff. But I love Hollyoaks so I’m proud of it. I miss the people and I do miss it sometimes but I’m very happy where I am at the moment.”
Channel 4 soap, Hollyoaks has been honoured for its portrayal of Hannah Ashworth’s struggle with eating disorders at this year’s Mental Health Media Awards.
Last year, viewers saw Hannah’s lengthy struggle with anorexia and bulimia end with her suffering a heart attack and being admitted to hospital.
