One of the biggest success stories of 2010 in terms of TV shows was university-based comedy drama Fresh Meat which was written by Peep Show scribes Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong. When it first aired most critics believed it to be a new Inbetweeners but set at a university, especially as it starred Inbetweeners actor Joe Thomas, however over time people grew to see it as a deeper show with well-drawn characters and a relatable story.
Since it aired, the programme has gone on to win a plethora of awards including a British Comedy Award and two accolades from The Royal Society of Television. Tonight all six actors return for series two which is set in a brand new term, however they are still learning to deal with life away from home and new problems emerge with the search for a seventh housemate.

Simon Bird and Joe Thomas, who of course star in The Inbetweeners, have revealed that the success of the show, and its spin-off movie, is a “double-edged sword” since they now fear anything else they do may not be as successful.
And specifically, Simon and Joe were referring to their new roles in ‘Chickens’, a comedy they co-wrote with Jonny Sweet, the pilot episode of which airs this Friday.
Speaking to What’s On TV, Simon said, “The Inbetweeners has opened a lot of doors for us.
“But at the same time, it is a double-edged sword because [Chickens] is obviously going to be judged in relation to the Inbetweeners – which is unfortunate because we want it to be judged on its own merits.” Read more & comment »

As fans of The Inbetweeners may be aware, MTV has bought the rights to the hit E4 comedy, and intends to broadcast a remake of the show.
However, Joe Thomas – who plays Simon in the UK version – fears that a remake could turn into a massive flop.
Speaking to the Daily Star, he said, “I’ll be interested to see it, but I can’t imagine how it will work.
“These characters aren’t heroes, they are anti-heroes. They can’t win, they can’t be seen to win.”
The paper adds, “The US remake will have an all-new cast but with the same characters. And hapless Simon will still have his little yellow car.” Read more & comment »

The 27-year-old actor – who plays unlucky-in-love Simon Cooper in the E4 teen comedy – explained that he was offered a prosthetic attachment for the scene but didn’t think it would make the experience any less embarrassing!
He told BANG Showbiz: “That was my real testicle. I was offered a prosthetic but I kind of thought, ‘It’s not as if if I have a prosthetic I’ll retain my dignity’. The dignity was gone already.
