Former EastEnders star, Alex Ferns, has been cast in a new ITV drama, The Widower.

Alex, as fans of the hit BBC1 soap will know, played the cruel and domestically violent husband of Little Mo Slater, Trevor Morgan, from 2000-2002 until he met his maker in a house fire he had planned to kill Mo and her family.

John Hannah has claimed that the upcoming Spartacus prequel is necessary to tell the story of the show fully.

Hannah, 48, plays Lentulus Batiatus, the owner of a gladiator school training the title character in Spartacus: Blood and Sand. His character was murdered by Spartacus in the season one finale but he will return to star in the show’s prequel in season two.

John Hannah, star of Spartacus – which is causing controversy due to its “explicit” nature – has revealed that he was going to invite his wife and kids to the set while he was filming, but when he discovered he’d be shooting a scene with “naked slave girls” he called off the visit.

Speaking to The Sun, John said, “We were filming this sequence where there is a party and the gladiator is brought in and the girls are in the water.

“I had been thinking about bringing the wife and kids out to the set for a bit of lunch and to see the filming, but I thought maybe I better not bring them out on this day!”
