Former Loose Women star Kate Thornton has revealed that when she learned she’d been axed from the hit ITV talk show, rather than being depressed about the situation, she decided to be pro-active and take her career in a whole new direction.

Speaking to the Sun’s TV Biz, Kate – who began her career as a journalist, writing for the Daily Mirror and editing Smash Hits magazine – revealed that she’s now studying to become a therapist, and will qualify after a three-year course.

She said, “I’ve got a little boy called Ben. I want him to see that when one door closes you just need to keep knocking on some new ones until the right one opens.

“I’ve gone back to college one day a week doing a course in counselling skills with a view to becoming a qualified therapist and I’m learning a lot about myself.

“It makes you take a long, hard look at yourself so it’s been quite tough at times…” Read more & comment »

Channel 5 have announced that next year, they will broadcast three documentaries under the overall title of ‘My Secret Teens’.

In the films – which will feature Corrie star Kym Marsh, former Loose Women panelist Kate Thornton, and reality TV personality Jodie Marsh – we’ll see today’s teenagers talking about a variety of supposedly ‘taboo’ subjects, such as bullying, eating disorders, and teenaged pregnancy.

Kym Marsh will present ‘Teen Mums and Me’ in which she’ll find out what it’s really like to be a teenaged mother in Britain today. She was herself just 19 when she had her first child, David.

For her film, Jodie Marsh – who formerly starred in Celebrity Big Brother – will broach the subject of bullying, and will reveal that her own childhood was made a living hell by bullies after an accident ‘disfigured’ her nose. Read more & comment »

Former Loose Women presenter Kate Thornton has revealed that following her split from her fiancé last year, she doesn’t think it’s likely that she’ll ever marry.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Kate went on to say that she feels “sad” that her young son won’t experience the same tight-knit family unit that she herself had as a child.

She added, “I don’t know about marriage now. I’d be a slightly old bride…

“[But] I’m no Bridget Jones at home necking a bottle of wine.”

And on the subject of her being ditched from Loose Women, Kate reckons she’s not bitter.

She said, “Telly is all about change and shaking things up. It’s how it works.

Sally Lindsay has claimed that she had no idea she was taking someone elses job, when she accepted a role on ITV’s Loose Women.

The former Coronation Street star was hired to sit on the panel of the daytime ITV show, but when she decided to join, bosses then sacked Kate Thornton and Zoe Tyler and brought in former Countdown star Carol Vorderman.

The Daily Mirror today reports that comediennes Dawn French and Caroline Aherne are on ITV bosses wish-list as replacements for Kate Thornton and Zoe Tyler on daytime show Loose Women.

And former Corrie star Sally Lindsay is also “being wooed by bosses” who’re said to be desperate to save the show.

The paper adds, “Dawn, 53, Caroline, 47 and Sally, 37, are vying with former Countdown host Carol Vorderman, 50, and Men Behaving Badly star Caroline Quentin, 51, for prestigious spots on the daily lunchtime chat show.” Read more & comment »

TV presenters Kate Thornton and Zoe Tyler have reportedly been ditched by the bosses of ITV daytime show Loose Women after the show failed to score a hit with viewers.

The Mail on Sunday reports that the decision to axe Kate and Zoe was made sometime last week when both women were told they wouldn’t be offered new contracts for the show’s return later this year.

Charlotte Jackson has landed her first primetime job.

The TV presenter, who was at the centre of the recent Sky Sports sexism scandal will front the second series ITV’s Arctic survival show 71 Degrees North.

Loose Women star Kate Thornton had hosted the series but after breaking up with her partner and father of her son Darren Emerson, she revealed she wants to stay in the UK now and concentrate on being a single mum.

It’s been quite the week for celebrity split announcements. It’s only Thursday and already Justin Collins has left his wife of seven years, Katie Price confirmed that she’s seeking a divorce from Alex Reid and now news hits that Kate Thornton has separated from her fiance after almost seven years together.

The 37-year-old Loose Women host made public her news on today’s show (03.02.11) revealing that she and partner DJ Darren Emerson actually split some time ago, but have remained close in order to protect their two-year-old son Ben.

She said: “As you ladies are aware I separated from Darren some time ago and we have worked through this together. We have come to terms with it now and are now able to speak about it. Every relationship where a child is involved is born out of love. There is a little boy in the middle and he has to come first. There is an overwhelming emotion of sadness but it doesn’t make me want to scream and shout. It makes me want to learn from it.”
