Keith Duffy’s son, Jay, is preparing to make his Hollyoaks comeback, as the son of evil (but oh so dreamy) Brendan Brady (Emmett J Scanlan).

Jay made his Hollyoaks debut as Declan Brady last summer and impressed bosses so much playing the part that they wanted to make him a full time cast member.  However, his father, Coronation Street and Boyzone star, Keith, said no.

Boyzone star Keith Duffy has revealed that he’d love to return to Coronation Street to reprise the role of barman and chef Ciaran McCarthy.

Following a brief return alongside co-star Kym Marsh – who plays Michelle Connor – last November, Keith subsequently left the show in order to spend more time with his family in Ireland.

However, while appearing on ITV chat show Loose Women, Keith told panellist Jane McDonald that he’d love to return to the cobbles.

He said, “I would [go back] I love the show, but my family are in Dublin. and I made a conscious decision to come home for a year because my son was doing his big exam and my daughter was moving from national school to secondary school.”

Although his latest stint on Corrie is to be a short one, Boyzone singer Keith Duffy has hinted that if Coronation Street’s bosses want him back, he may make a permanent move to England.

As fans of the show will know, Keith is currently starring as Ciaran McCarthy, but in forthcoming storylines, Ciaran’s relationship with Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) is going to hit the rocks when he gambles away the money they saved for their wedding.

And amid Michelle’s commitment to Underworld, and the revelations that she and Ciaran want rather different things out of life, their engagement is set to crumble, and Ciaran will leave Weatherfield.

In reality, that’s because Keith wants to spend more time with his family – his son Jay recently starred in Hollyoaks – but he hasn’t ruled out a future, more long term, return to Corrie. Read more & comment »

As fans of Corrie will know, even though he’s only just come back to the Street, Keith Duffy – who plays Ciaran McCarthy – won’t be around long as he wants to spend more time with his family…

And until today, how Ciaran would be written out has remained a secret, but Keith has now revealed that his character will leave with gambling debts and having carried out a robbery.

Speaking to RTE, Keith – whose son Jay recently starred in Hollyoaks – said, “Ciaran gambles away all his wedding money and then gets into trouble with Michelle [Kym Marsh].

“Then he robs a bistro to get his money back and then he gets caught. It’s great.”

I wonder if the writers of Corrie made a deliberate effort to make the show’s Irish characters into criminals??

Corrie star Craig Charles has revealed that his character, cabbie Lloyd Mullaney, is headed for a “proper breakdown” in the aftermath of his girlfriend Cheryl (Holly Quin-Ankrah) leaving him to go back to her ex-husband Chris Gray (Will Thorp).

And Keith Duffy, who of course plays barman Ciaran McCarthy, has revealed that he may well return to the show some day after his latest short stint is over.

But let’s go back to Craig first, and, speaking via the show’s official website, he revealed just how far off the rails Lloyd will go as he tries to deal with losing Cheryl.

He said, “Things are going to get a lot worse. He’s going to have a proper breakdown, he’s taken this really badly.”

Soapy weddings have historically been a disaster area, and it would seem that the forthcoming wedding of Michelle Connor and Ciaran McCarthy will run true to form… badly.

Michelle and Ciaran – who are of course played by Kym Marsh and Keith Duffy – are set to wed soon, right after they get back to Weatherfield after having been away for months while working on a cruise ship.

However, as soon as they’re back, Michelle will find herself fully embroiled in Carla Connor’s recovery – or lack thereof – after Frank Foster (Andrew Lancel) raped her and proceeded to trash her business. Carla (Alison King) is of course Michelle’s former sister-in-law.

But in addition to coping with all that trauma, Michelle is set to discover that Ciaran has no interest in starting a family, which is something Michelle is desperate to do.

Kym recently spoke to Soaplife about the storyline, saying, “Michelle’s started to want to settle down but she fears Ciaran still has wanderlust – and I fear this is a problem…” Read more & comment »

While writing for her New! magazine column, Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has revealed that she hopes Keith Duffy may return to the show some day.

Kym and Keith – who of course play the roles of Michelle Connor and Ciaran McCarthy – are soon to be back on the Street as their characters return from working on a cruise ship.

They’re set to be married on-screen, but it seems their marriage is doomed to failure when Michelle reveals she wants children, and Ciaran doesn’t.

They’re engaged! And as the Daily Mail reports, Kym Marsh and Keith Duffy – who of course play Michelle and Ciaran – were spotted filming scenes for the couple’s wedding.

However, as this is Corrie – and as Keith has announced he’s leaving the show – we can expect that things won’t go smoothly for the pair who have returned after working together on a cruise ship.

It’s been reported by the Daily Star that Keith Duffy’s Corrie character, Ciaran McCarthy, is being written out permanently in a “dramatic” Christmas storyline.

The Boyzone singer returns to Weatherfield alongside Kym Marsh – who of course plays Michelle Connor – next month, but he has revealed that he wants to quit the show to spend more time with his family.

A show insider said, “Something had to give and sadly it was Corrie.

“He’s had a great time working on the show but these last few months have proved very demanding.

Hollyoaks star Bronagh Waugh has revealed that despite being in awe of Boyzone singer and Corrie actor Keith Duffy, the cast manage to control themselves when he visits the set.

Keith is of course Jay Duffy’s father, who’s currently starring on the show as Declan Brady.

Speaking to the PA, Bronagh said, “Everyone manages to control themselves nicely – most of us have met Keith before from the soap awards so it was cool.

“Keith is lovely and wicked. He has been on set a few times to chaperone his son – he is really supportive and just lets his son do his own thing, while he stays quietly in the background.”

Keith Duffy’s son will follow him into the land of soaps and has landed a role on Hollyoaks.

While Keith is soon to return to ITV’s Coronation Street, 15 year old Jay will start filming on the channel 4 soap later this month.

Keith was boasting about his son’s success on Ireland’s The Late Late Show, saying:

“Nobody knows yet, but Jay has been auditioning in the UK for the past few weeks and he found out yesterday that he’s going to be one of the new stars in Hollyoaks!”

Keith Duffy isn’t nervous about the upcoming ‘Coronation Street’ live episode.

The former Boyzone star – who plays Ciaran McCarthy in the ITV1 soap – explained if anything does end up going wrong live on air, he plans to “snog” whoever is standing next to him to take the attention away from the gaff.

He said: “I’m looking forward to the live episode – and to be honest I’m not that nervous about it. I’m sure that saying will come back to bit me on the bum, but I’ve done a lot of live stuff so it doesn’t really bother me.

Corrie star Bev Callard has revealed that not only is her character attracted to barman Ciaran Duffy, she herself fancies Keith Duffy who plays the roguish charmer.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, she said, “(Keith) is gorgeous! You wouldn’t be normal if you didn’t fancy him.

“He’s a lovely bloke and is always in a good mood.

Corrie actor and Boyzone singer Keith Duffy has apparenlty revealed that his bandmate Shane Lynch won’t be making an appearance on the show.

It seems that earlier on this year, it was speculated that Shane would join the cast, but in an interview with Inside Soap, Keith – who plays barman Ciaran – denied he would be on the show.
