Fans of EastEnders know Laila Morse best as Big Mo Harris, who’s never shy when it comes to a bit of law breaking now and again…
However, unfortunately for her, that ethos of ‘Catch me if you can’ has extended into her real life, as her son, 43 year old Gerry Bromfield, has been jailed after stealing her car and driving it while under the influence of booze and drugs.
The Daily Mirror reports that Gerry took Laila’s Audi Q7 without permission, and in a bid to avoid being caught by police, he drove off at speed after the police tried to pull him over, crashing into two other vehicles.
Gerry reportedly then left the scene of the accident on foot, but later handed himself in to police.
The paper states that he told officers, “I was driving. I nicked my mum’s car and I crashed into the other cars… Read more & comment »
News from Walford way today begins with Laila Morse, who reckons that the shoulder injury she suffered while rehearsing for Dancing on Ice may have to be written into the show.
Laila of course plays Big Mo Harris, and though she’s currently still on leave from the show, she expects to return to filming before her injury is fully healed.
Speaking to the PA, Laila – who has also expressed a desire to host her own chat show – explained, “My shoulder will take about 12 weeks to fix because it is a tear.
“I can just go back to EastEnders and pretend I have been hit by a bus or something.
“I have had an accident on holiday or something with Fat Elvis. They can come up with something.”

Coronation Street’s Andy Whyment, EastEnders star Laila Morse and former Brookside star Jennifer Ellison are among a variety of stars who are taking part in this year’s Dancing on Ice – which kicks off on Sunday night on ITV1 at 6:30pm – but almost everyone involved has already suffered some kind of injury!
Laila, who of course plays feisty Big Mo Harris in EastEnders, has damaged her shoulder so badly in rehearsals that she now needs surgery on it.
However, despite the fact that medics have advised 66 year old Laila to pull out of the show, she’s vowed to see it through.
She told the Daily Star, “It’s like being in the war – you just have to carry on and think to yourself: ‘Come on girl, get down in the trenches and get on with it.’
“I don’t want to let anyone down [but] if I am out first, then great.
“I’ve got three months off EastEnders so I’ll take the money and go on holiday.” Read more & comment »
News from Walford way today includes Pam St Clement revealing the real reason why she decided to leave EastEnders and her role as Pat Evans, and also that Laila Morse – who of course plays Big Mo Harris – is taking time off to get into training to star in Dancing on Ice.
But starting with 69 year old Pam, she told the Daily Mirror, “As an actor I am a great believer in leaving the stage while they still want more.
“My greatest fear is that you will bore the audience. And once that thought has popped into your head you then have to go through with the practicalities of it.”
Pam, who’s a staunch advocate for, and supporter of, animal rights issues, and who originally wanted to be a vet, went on to say that she’d now like to try making wildlife programmes… Read more & comment »
