After the sad passing of one of US TV’s biggest stars, Larry Hagman, last month in the middle of filming the second comeback series of second series of the cult show, Dallas, he is due to be given a proper on-screen send off, the Sowetan reports.
Hagman, who had starred in the hugely popular series when it began back in the 80′s, passed away peacefully during the Thanksgiving weekend after a battle with throat cancer, surrounded by his family, after filming for the second series had begun.

There’s sad news this morning in that it’s been reported that Dallas star Larry Hagman, who of course played the soap’s iconic character JR Ewing, has died aged 81.
Larry had been battling throat cancer for a number of years, yet despite this, he of course joined many of the show’s original cast members in a new series of the show which airs on Channel 5.
The Sun reports that his Dallas co-stars – and close personal friends – Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy, who played JR’s wife Sue Ellen and his brother Bobby, were at his bedside in a Dallas hospital when he passed away.

When I was a kid, Dallas was almost compulsory viewing, and I recall watching in awe the glitz and glitter of the fictional Ewing family, with their enormous wealth and beautiful women…
I desperately wanted to be Pam Ewing, and even the drunken Swellen – Sue Ellen, but it always sounded like Swellen – retained her glamour, no matter how nissed as a pewt she was.
They were icons to me, as was Larry Hagman as the ruthless JR Ewing, so I was overjoyed when I heard that the show was returning with a new batch of Ewings as well as the old faves.
The Dallas reboot launches on Channel 5 on Wednesday 5th September at 21:00 on Channel 5, and ahead of it, its stars have been giving interviews promoting the show, and in today’s TV Biz, Larry Hagman has been discussing his return to the show, and how he believes every family can relate to having a resident “baddie” in their ranks… Read more & comment »

Larry Hagman, who plays legendary soap character JR Ewing in Dallas – both in the original ‘80s version and the newly revamped show – has been diagnosed with cancer.
80 year old Larry, who underwent a liver transplant in the 1990s, issued a statement, which read, “As JR I could get away with anything – bribery, blackmail and adultery. But I got caught by cancer.”
The PA adds that Hagman declined to specify what kind of cancer he has, but said it is “a very common and treatable form”.
Larry reportedly plans to continue working on the revamped Dallas for the TNT network. Channel 5 has bought the rights to air the new show in 2012.

Legendary Dallas actor Larry Hagman has signed up for a guest role on Desperate Housewives.
The 79 year old star will play grump pensioner Frank Kaminski, the fiance of Stella Winfield (Polly Bergen).
Stella’s daughter Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman) takes an instant dislike to Frank and accuses her elderly mum of marrying him for the wrong reasons.
