Fans of the hit drama will know how at the end of the last series the Grantham family were, surprisingly, all happy after a heart breaking and highly emotional series which saw Bates (Brendan Coyle) released from prison and Lady Sybil (Jessica Brown-Findlay) dying in childbirth.

Last night saw the 6th episode of the current third series of the hit ITV period drama, Downton Abbey, and whilst the house is still deeply in mourning after the sudden and tragic death of Lady Sybil last week, life must carry on both upstairs and downstairs!

Lady Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) still blames her husband, Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) for the death of her youngest child, and refuses to speak to him, or share her bed with him, much to his devastation!

There have of course been many rumours abounding about Dame Maggie Smith’s behaviour on the set of Downton Abbey, and most notably from producer Rebecca Eaton who claimed Maggie was “a handful”.
She said of Dame Maggie, who plays the Dowager Countess Violet, “Maggie Smith is a handful, it’s true. She’s very difficult.
“She knows her worth, and she’s tricky on the set, but she delivers when the time comes.”
At the time of the report, an article in the Daily Mirror claimed that Maggie was so infuriated with Eaton’s comments that she demanded she was fired.
A show insider told the paper, “Maggie made it clear that she no longer wanted to work with her.
“As a result, Eaton has been asked to stand down from the third series, and her name will be taken off the credits…” Read more & comment »
