Comedian Ricky Gervais seems to be forever in the headlines these days, primarily for saying something offensive, but what I’m wondering is if he’s doing it deliberately for press attention?
In my experience of reporting on entertainment news, it’s historically been the case that when someone’s regular TV career is over, for whatever reason, they make a comeback by either starring in a reality TV show, or saying something ‘bad’.
However, as far as I’m aware, Ricky’s not that far down the Z list as yet, so what’s his motivation for actively courting controversy?
His latest ‘antics’ have of course included his use of the word “mong” in a Twitter post, and now, he’s about to unleash a comedy which sees him and comedian partner Stephen Merchant, dedicating a whole show to taking the pi** out of a dwarf… Read more & comment »
Oscar winning actress Sandra Bullock is set to star in a new comedy series alongside Keith Chegwin and Les Dennis.
The Daily Mirror states that Sandra, who won Best Actress for her performance in The Blind Side, jets in to the UK this month to film “top secret scenes” for Ricky Gervais’s Life’s Too Short.

Johnny Depp has reportedly agreed to appear in Ricky Gervais’ new BBC sitcom.
The Hollywood A lister – who was the butt of one of ‘The Office’ star’s jibes at this year’s Golden Globes, when he described Johnny’s acting in ‘The Tourist’ as one-dimensional – is said to be joining the cost of Ricky and sidekick Stephen Merchant’s new BBC Two sitcom ‘Life’s Too Short’.
However, it would appear Johnny took Golden Globes host Ricky’s jokes on the chin, as he has a “great sense of humour”.
Following on from the pilot of Life’s Too Short, BBC Two have today announced a six-part series to be filmed next year.
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, creators of award-winning series The Office and Extras, have already begun writing six episodes for BBC in-house Comedy. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant will also make an appearance as themselves.
