Within minutes of the show airing, fans took to Twitter to criticise the new format, branding it a low budget imitation of BBC Breakfast.
One viewer tweeted, “Watched 20 mins of @daybreak. Have now turned over to BBC. Don’t like the new format.”
Another remarked, “Wtf have daybreak done to their layout, looks like something from 1950′s, yellow wallpaper and striples… Ew.” Read more & comment »

When it was reported a few weeks ago that veteran TV presenter Lorraine Kelly had suffered injuries in a horse riding accident, the full extent of those injuries wasn’t made public.
But now, while speaking to the Sun – for whom Lorraine is a columnist – Lorraine has admitted that she still has “flashbacks” about the accident, that could very easily have become a tragedy.
Of her ongoing recovery, Lorraine said, “I am getting there but it’s been a long, long process.
“I’m so looking forward to getting back to work but I’m going to have to take it easy.
“I’ve been living in big jogging pants because my leg swelled up to twice its size — it will be so good to put on a nice dress and a bit of slap!”
The accident happened when novice rider Lorraine was training for a fundraising event – for the PiggyBankKids children’s charity – in February when a jump ended in disaster… Read more & comment »
It’s been reported today that veteran breakfast telly presenter Lorraine Kelly is to become the new ‘face’ of the soon-to-be revamped Daybreak.
It has of course been widely speculated that she would take over the key role of hosting the show – in the wake of the axing of Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles last year – but apparently her recent horse riding accident delayed plans to announce the news.
However, now Lorraine is well on the road to recovery, the show’s boss, David Kermode is now seeking a male presenter to host alongside Lorraine.
The Mirror states that there are four contenders; BBC Breakfast sports reporter Chris Hollins, ex-Blue Peter host Gethin Jones, Five News presenter Matt Barbet and ITV News correspondent Keir Simmons.
The paper states that 52 year old Lorraine is “thrilled” to be taking over the role of main anchor on Daybreak, but it seems that she had a list of “demands” to make of Kermode before she agreed to sign up… Read more & comment »
The Sun’s TV Biz reports today that Lorraine Kelly is set to become the new ‘face’ of Daybreak, along with a “lesser known” male co-host.
Lorraine – who’s currently off work following a horse riding accident – has long been a favourite with breakfast time telly viewers, and has remained with the show since GMTV launched and subsequently became the ailing Daybreak.
Presently, Kate Garraway and Dan Lobb are fronting the show, as they have been doing since the departure of flops Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles.
However, the paper states that Daybreak’s new boss David Kermode is in talks with Lorraine – and with Five News presenter Matt Barbet – about fronting the show from 7am until 9.25am.
A show insider said, “It doesn’t take a genius to realise the answer to ITV’s breakfast problems is staring them in the face.
“The audiences go up for Lorraine’s slot and the reason for that is Lorraine. She is down to earth and someone British women can relate to…” Read more & comment »

Ben Shephard has admitted that he once “flashed” his bum at Lorraine Kelly.
The 36-year-old former Xtra Factor presenter – who worked on ‘GMTV’ with the Scottish presenter for 10 years – was modelling a kilt on the ITV breakfast show and had to prove that he wasn’t wearing any underwear, at the insistence of his feisty colleague.
He said: “I did flash at Lorraine one morning! I had a kilt on and she didn’t think I was wearing it in the traditional Scottish way. Maybe I shouldn’t have shown her my bum live on TV, but she remembers it fondly. I don’t have regrets.”
