Coronation Street bosses have revealed that they are planning an on screen send-off for Blanche Hunt on the soap after actress Maggie Jones passed away.
Speaking on This Morning today, the ITV soap’s producer Kim Crowther confirmed that Blanche – who has been holidaying with a friend in Portugal to date – will have a funeral later this year. The storyline will also encompass the return of Blanche’s grand-daughter Tracey Barlow.
On the sad news that Maggie Jones, who played Corrie’s Blanche Hunt, has passed away, we’d like to give our own little tribute to her.
She was one of the funniest women on TV and she brought her amazing ability to parlay sarcasm and wit into sharp one-liners on Coronation Street for many years. Maggie received a British Soap Award for Best Comedy Performance in both 2005 and 2008.
The stars and staff of ITV’s Coronation Street have begun to pay tribut to their late co-star Maggie Jones. Maggie died earlier today in hospital.

I will remember her as a friend and a colleague – a brilliant woman – smart, honest and laugh-out-loud funny. But I will also remember her as the public will – as the unstoppable Blanche Hunt. Sharper than a Velociraptor with a flick knife, she always said just what you wanted to hear. ”

Maggie played Blanche Hunt, mother of Deirdre Barlow on the ITV soap opera. Blanche first appeared in the soap in 1961, however in 1974 that she appeared for the first time as Blanche. She remained a regular cast member until 1976, made several one off appearances in the next two decades and became a regular cast member again in 1999.
Coronation Street actress, Maggie Jones, is critically ill in hospital after a bad fall on Sunday. Maggie ended up in emergency surgery after she ruptured her spleen in the accident.
