It’s going to be a mammoth night of TV viewing this Saturday. Merlin returns at 6.40pm, then into the first Strictly Come Dancing of the year, followed by some hasty channel hopping between the BBC and ITV’s X Factor.
Merlin may have got distinctly mediocre ratings when it aired in American earlier this summer, but I really enjoyed series one and will be sure to tune in for season two. It’s not as if I have a choice, my kids love the show too!

The second series of the show is set to return to our screens later this year and Beeb bosses are said to have been so impressed with Stevens on Strictly that they snapped up the chance to have her on the Saturday night show.

BBC have officially confirmed that there will be a second series of fantasy drama, Merlin, not much of a surprise for anyone who saw the To Be Continued……text at the end of the last episode.
Merlin has performed well since it launched on 20 September 2008, averaging an audience of 6.2 million viewers for the first eight episodes, with a 28% average share. I can say personally that it was certainly more enjoyable than Robin Hood, BBC’s last attempt to fill the Doctor Who slot.

Merlin ushers the child inside the nearest door, only to find Morgana and Gwen hiding there. To his surprise, when the guards knock on the door, Morgana covers for the boy and the guards pass.

When the Lady Morgana is struck down with a mysterious illness, Gaius is at a loss for a cure. Thankfully a new physician, Edwin Muirden, is on hand to bring the King’s ward back from the brink.
On a trip to the forest, Merlin is attacked by a terrifying winged monster. Help comes from an unexpected quarter when a heroic stranger fights off the beast. His name? Lancelot.
Keen to repay this debt, Merlin resolves to help his new friend become a Knight of Camelot. But at what cost? For Lancelot is not of noble blood, and to change the pages of destiny is a dangerous game. With the mysterious creature still on the loose, Merlin’s actions could have disastrous consequences for Camelot – and for Arthur.

Former Hollyoaks actor, Will Mellor, has described his role in the second episode of Merlin as his dream job. In the episode Mellor played evil Knight Valiant and I didn’t actually think he did the role any justice whatsoever.
“It was phenomenal, what dreams are made of,” Mellor told the Manchester Evening News. “I had a great character to play, with horse riding and sword fighting in a stunning setting.”
However the high temperatures in Paris posed a problem during filming for Mellor due to his bulky costume. Read more & comment »
