It’s been revealed today that surrogate mum Tina McIntyre is set to go into labour – weeks too early – in the newly refurbished Rovers!

Tina, who is of course played by soon-to-be departing actress Michelle Keegan, will begin to experience contractions as she’s working behind the bar of the pub, which is of course set to reopen once it’s been refurbished following the killer blaze that was started by spurned lover Karl Munro (John Michie).

However, it seems that though the baby boy – who is the biological son of Gary Windass (Mikey North) and his girlfriend Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston) – arrives early, after a scare about him being underweight, he’s going to be fine and will be named Jake by his doting mum and dad. There’s sad news for fans of Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan as it’s been revealed today that she’s quitting the soap and her role as surrogate mum, Tina McIntyre.

Michelle, who’s currently dating former The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright, has revealed that she made the decision to leave the long-running serial drama in order to pursue other roles, and apropos of which, she’d love to star in Downton Abbey!

It’s been reported today that filming for one of Coronation Street’s biggest storylines has been “thrown into chaos” as cast member Michelle Keegan is off work having been struck down by a mystery virus.

Michelle, who of course plays surrogate mum Tina McIntyre, was taken ill on-set yesterday, and the Daily Mirror reports that she was spotted “with her head in her hands looking distressed, before being sent home sick.”

She’s now been signed off work for the rest of the week, which means that the show’s scriptwriters have to work around her absence and to draw up a new schedule for the scenes she was due to film. Read more & comment »

Fans of Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan will probably know that she caused a minor frenzy on Twitter this week after posting what appeared to be a picture of herself topless in the bath!

However, the image was deleted just six seconds after it was posted online, and later, Michelle answered hundreds of messages about the photo saying it wasn’t her boobs on display and was instead a prank played on her by her best mate.

But the more Michelle protested that the picture wasn’t of her ample bosom, the more people began to assume the lady doth protest. As we reported recently, when surrogate mum Tina McIntyre faints – it’ll transpire she’s anaemic – next week, her boyfriend Tommy Duckworth will plead with her to abort the baby she’s carrying for Gary Windass (Mikey North) and Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston) as he fears the toll on her health is to great…

And somewhat shockingly, Michelle Keegan, who of course plays Tina, has revealed that when her character tells Izzy about Tommy’s request, she’ll be supportive of Tommy (Chris Fountain) and will tell Tina that if she does decide to terminate the pregnancy, she and Gary will “just start again with someone else!”

Michelle made the revelation about the plot twist while speaking to Digital Spy about the surrogacy storyline, and what lies ahead for her character.

Tina is of course pregnant with the couple’s baby following a procedure to implant their fertilized egg into Tina’s womb…

However, I can’t help but wonder if we’re set to see a big twist in which it turns out that the baby is in fact Tina and Tommy’s! Remember right before she had the eggs implanted? Tommy and Tina had had yet another row then there was the intimation that they’d made up via a trip to the bedroom?
