Neil Dudgeon has revealed that when he took over the lead role in drama Midsomer Murders from John Nettles, he worried that viewers would stop watching.
Neil first joined the show in 2010, but only took on the lead part when John – who played Tom Barnaby – left last year.
Of his concerns, Neil – who’s also starred in Casualty, London’s Burning, Lovejoy, and A Touch of Frost – told the PA, “I thought everyone would stop watching, [saying] we only like John Nettles”.
He added, “It would have been the end of my career but fortunately that wasn’t the case.
“I’ve been acting for 25 years and I’ve always been a fan of the series.”
He went on to say that now John has left, “The show is essentially still the same…” Read more & comment »

As viewers of the hugely popular drama Midsomer Murders will most likely know, the show’s executive producer, Brian True-May, was recently suspended after remarking that “whites only” are cast in the show.
Mr True-May made his comments during an interview with the Radio Times in which he said, “Maybe I’m not politically correct. We just don’t have ethnic minorities involved.
“It wouldn’t be the English village with them. It just wouldn’t work.
“Suddenly we might be in Slough. Ironically, Causton [a town in the show] is supposed to be Slough and if you went into Slough you wouldn’t see a white face.
“We’re the last bastion of Englishness and I want to keep it that way.”
