Despite hopes that it may be saved, American comedy My Name Is Earl will not be returning.

The show was dropped last month by US TV network NBC, but smaller network TBS said they may consider running it instead.

However show bosses have now declined that offer, after weighing up the cuts they would need to make to the show to fit in with the new reduced budget.

An official statement read: “While we had hoped to find a way to produce additional episodes for TBS, in the final analysis we simply could not make the economics work without seriously undermining the artistic integrity of the series.

Ardent fans of US comedy My Name Is Earl have come out in protest of the recent decision to axe the show by launching a Twitter petition.

At present there are precisely 7,879 people supporting the ‘ EarlTwitition’ but I’m not sure that’s gonna be enough to save the show which lost millions of viewers during its last season.

So what about you guys? Any MNIE fans out there? Bet you’re a sad sack today

The Los Angeles Times has reported that the Jason Lee and Jaime Pressly show was cancelled after four seasons due to falling ratings.

“It’s hard to be too upset about being thrown off the Titanic,” joked show’s creator Greg Garcia.

My Name Is Earl has been moved about again, and now Channel 4 are airing it at 10.45pm on Thursday nights.

Everyone feels trapped in tonight’s My Name Is Earl on Channel 4 at 10PM. Ohhh I just love Friday nights!!!

I took a while to appreciate Channel 4 sitcom, My Name Is Earl. My hubby fell in love with the show from the very first episode. He liked it so much that I tried to hate it. The same thing happened with Scrubs, I know that I shouldn’t like it and it shouldn’t be funny, but after a while I just can’t help being drawn in!

Anyway we have got our hands on a clip from tonight’s show which airs at 10pm, just after Dirty Sexy Money on Channel 4. Watch all the guys reminisce about how they first met and what happened when they first arrived in Camden County!

Most hit TV shows seem to need a celebrity cameo to keep them at the top. Last week How I Met Your Mother feautured Britney Spears and tomorrow night on US TV My Name Is Earl will bring viewers the one and only Paris Hilton.
