The Press Association report today that former EastEnders actor Neil McDermott – who played the role of Ryan Malloy until he left earlier this year – is to star in Shrek: The Musical next year.
Neil will play the role of Lord Farquaad, which is currently played by another ex-EastEnder, Nigel Harmon, who of course played the role of Dennis Rickman on the show.
The musical – which stars BGT judge Amanda Holden and Girls Aloud singer Kimberly Walsh – won’t be the first that Neil’s starred in, with his previous theatre credits including a role in the West End musical version of The Sound of Music.
And as well as his role in EastEnders, Neil has also starred in an episode of Doctor Who entitled, The Next Doctor, as well making appearances in Casualty and Rosemary and Thyme.
As mentioned above, Neil left EastEnders earlier this year, citing the reason for his departure as wanting to spend more time with his wife and young daughter, Arabella Betsy, who will be one year old next January. Read more & comment »

EastEnders actor Neil McDermott, who of course plays Ryan Malloy, has told Holy Soap that he believes fans’ reaction to the cot death and baby swap storyline was “blown out of proportion.”
However, Neil had previously stated that he and his wife Michelle wouldn’t watch the New Year’s Eve storyline as it would be too upsetting in light of the fact that their own baby was due to be born.
The couple welcomed baby Arabella Betsy early in January, but on the subject of the storyline, Neil said, “We didn’t watch it because Michelle was a few days overdue when that was going on.
“At the end of the day, if something is going to upset you don’t watch it.”
