Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev’s split may have surprised us greatly and left us feeling a little shocked and shaken last week but an insider has claimed that it wasn’t unexpected for those in the know and close to the former couple.
The pair’s breakup was first reported last week, just a month after they both finished filming the fourth season of The Vampire Diaries. After the shooting wrapped Ian headed to Europe alone, while Nina went on a girls holiday with her pal Juliette Hough and a source told E! Online that even then, the pair knew a more permanent separation was on the cards.

According to sources close to the two US cult stars, the relationship between Somerhalder and Dobrev broke down because of conflicting commitment wishes, and since the pair have been spotted, separately, getting over one another in their own different ways.

Nina, who plays Elena in the show, compared her chaste on-screen appearances with the often rather less clothed stars of rival drama, True Blood.
She told the PA, “I’m very content with not being nude on national television.
“I enjoy True Blood myself and I watch the show, but I’m happy that bra and underwear is as stripped down as I can get for the show.”
Nina went on to say that there is no competition between Vampire Diaries and True Blood, nor is there any rivalry with the Twilight story and shows.

Star of the hit US TV series The Vampire Diaries showed up on ITV’s This Morning yesterday to promote the series return to digital TV channel ITV2.
During the interview Nina revealed that she loves wearing Katherine’s corsets, even though she can’t breathe in them and admitted that when playing her evil alter ego, she tries to copy how Ian plays Damon since she is supposed to have taught him everything he knows.
