In upcoming episodes of Coronation Street, we’ll see that Anna Windass (Debbie Rush) becomes alarmed when she finds out that her adopted daughter Faye (Ellie Leach) has been talking to an older man on the internet…
She of course – as most parents would – immediately assumes that the man is a predatory paedophile who could be “grooming” young Faye, however, while that turns out not to be the case, Anna’s still left distraught when she finds out that the mystery man Faye’s been speaking to is her biological dad, Tim Metcalfe!
And things go from bad to worse for Anna when she learns that Faye has bunked off school to meet up with Tim, who’s played by Joe Duttine who formerly appeared in Corrie as policeman DS Carr.
However, when Anna talks to her boyfriend Owen Armstrong (Ian Puleston-Davies) about her worries over Faye meeting up with Tim – which are primarily that she may want to go and live with her dad – Owen uses his fists to resolve the situation… Read more & comment »

Totally unsurprisingly, some viewers of Coronation Street have complained about scenes in which the character of Owen Armstrong slapped 10 year old Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) when he discovered she’d poisoned his fish.
Owen, who’s played by Ian Puleston-Davies, was seen slapping Faye’s legs twice as his fury over the incident – in which Faye poured creosote into Owen’s fish pond, killing the fish – took over and he lashed out.
The Daily Mirror reports that, “Hundreds of horrified parents” have complained to ITV and TV watchdog Ofcom about the scene.
Irate viewers also took to internet forums and social networking sites to voice their opinions, with one fan saying Owen’s actions were “psychotic”, while another asked, “He was really laying into her, or that was the writers’ intent?”
On Twitter, one viewer wrote, “Very uncomfortable. Wrong on so many levels…” Read more & comment »

As we reported last week, in forthcoming episodes of Coronation Street, Owen Armstrong is set to slap Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) after he finds out she poisoned and killed the fish in his pond.
And though Ian Puleston-Davies, who of course plays Owen, is loving his role on the Street, he’s told What’s On TV that he didn’t want his character to be a “baddie”.
He said, “I was a little nervous in the beginning when all I seemed to be doing was pointing fingers and telling my children off…
“Apart from the fear of being stuck in a corner and being the Corrie baddie, which I certainly didn’t want to be from the outset, I was really holding my breath that they’d soften the endings and show there were more layers to him.
“I knew they weren’t going to go down the axe murder route because they said that from the off… Read more & comment »

Although they’ve had some big contentious issues as storylines, such as rape, domestic violence, murder and the buying of children in the past, Corrie doesn’t tend to weigh in on political correctness issues too often…
However, according to the Daily Star today, in a forthcoming plotline, the show is to feature Owen Armstrong (Ian Puleston-Davies) slapping his girlfriend Anna Windass’ (Debbie Rush) adopted daughter Faye (Ellie Louise Leach).
The paper reports that Owen is left with parental responsibility for Faye when Anna begs him to take care of the little girl while she has to leave town for a few days to take care of a sick relative.
While Anna’s away, Faye is set to make life a misery for Owen, ignoring what she’s told to do, and being generally as disruptive and offensive as humanly possible… Read more & comment »
