There’s no denying that The Royle Family is one of the best sitcoms of the past twenty years. Part of its success was definitely the well-observed writing of Craig Cash and Caroline Aherne. While Cash went on to write and direct a number of successful shows, Aherne remained relatively quiet. Outside of The Royle Family Christmas Specials, Aherne’s last project as a writer was the 2009 festive special The Fattest Man in Britain. This week Aherne reteams with Jeff Pope, who co-wrote The Fattest Man in Britain, for one-off comedy The Security Men. The show focuses on four security guards and, like The Royle Family, is totally based in one enclosed set.

Each week the ‘Take Me Out’ star guides his viewers through life and it’s important lessons, using only his uses his 10-foot plasma TV. That sounds like our kind of advice.

We reported a few months back that the hugely popular ITV dating quiz show, Take Me Out, was planning on hosting a celebrity Christmas special and today it has been revealed that one of the celebs taking part in the show will be ITV2 comic, Keith Lemon.
According to the Sun newspaper, the hilarious host of the massive ITV2 quiz show, Celebrity Juice, will be taking part as one of three male celebs picking a date out of 30 hopeful women to take with them to the Isle of Fernando’s.

It’s been reported today that a Christmas special of Take Me Out – which is of course hosted by comedian Paddy McGuinness – will feature singleton male celebrities hoping to find love.
The Sun, who reported on the special, didn’t say which single male celebrities may appear, or if the ladies who may or may not choose to go on a date with them will be your average Josephine’s or if they’ll also be celebs.
However, a show source said, “The special should make for fantastic viewing. These celebs are putting themselves out there.
“It could lead to a match made in heaven – but it could also end in disaster. Either way, viewers will be gripped.”

It’s been reported today that Paddy McGuinness’ dare devil show 71 Degrees North has been shelved because the show’s producers can’t find enough celebrities who want to take part in it!
Paddy’s co-host Charlotte Jackson confirmed yesterday that the show has been axed for time being, telling TV Biz, “It’s not coming back.”
Last year, Rav Wilding conquered all the challenges presented by the show and its setting, which is “the frozen wastes of Scandinavia.”
Of the show’s setting – which it seems few celebs are tempted by – Charlotte said, “The scenery is spectacular and it was an amazing experience, but it’s really tough.

Paddy McGuinness will join the new series of ITV survival show ’71 Degrees North’.
The ‘Take Me Out’ presenter will front the show – which sees 10 celebrities battle it out in a number of challenges in the Scandinavian Arctic – with former Sky Sports anchorwoman Charlotte Jackson but he admits he is jealous of other TV personalities who get to work in studios while he visits the frozen north.
