Doctor Who 50th anniversary: DWM confirms David Tennant is the ONLY returning doctor!

After months of speculation Doctor Who Magazine has confirmed that David Tennant will be the only former Time Lord joining Matt Smith for the 50th anniversary episode.

Pretty much as soon as an anniversary episode was announced it was widely rumoured that all 11 former Doctors would feature in the episode, with those who had sadly passed away being videoed in from previous episodes.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Spoilers: Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann all NOT taking part in special!

Ever since it was announced that Doctor Who would be showing an anniversary special episode this November to mark the show’s 50th birthday it had been widely speculated that all remaining former Doctor Who’s would be involved.

This was supported by the announcement that David Tennant, who played the iconic role before the current Time Lord Matt Smith took over, had signed up and had been spotted in rehearsals with Smith, and his former companion Billie Piper.

Ripper Street Episode Four: Emma Rigby shines in another episode of the drama which isn’t sure what kind of show it wants to be

Those of you who read my review of the first episode of Ripper Street know that I felt it took itself too seriously and was all style and no substance. I was then persuaded to give it a chance by a friend who said the series gradually got better but, apart from Joe Giglun’s episode two performance as a sinister Fagin-type character, there wasn’t much evidence of that. Now we’re halfway through the series, I thought I’d give it another go and personally I think there’s been a slight improvement as questions have been asked about the central characters, while one of the guest actors gives an emotionally powerful performance that really lifts the episode.

The performance in particular comes from former Hollyoaks and Prisoner’s Wives actress Emma Rigby as Lucy, who we initially see appear at Long Sally’s brothel asking for her room back after having been cast out two years previous. As Lucy is currently pregnant, Sally feels she cannot justify keeping her on so sends her out into the cold once again, however later, she is found drenched in blood screaming to one of the police officers about a murder… Read more & comment »

Matt Smith wants Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Tom Baker and Paul McGann back on Doctor Who

Matt Smith has admitted that he would love to see some old faces back on a new series of Doctor Who.

The British actor, who plays the titular Time Lord, has revealed that he would be delighted if bosses could get some of the men who formerly took on the role to return for special guest appearances.

Singling out Tom Baker – who played the Doctor from 1974 to 1981 – and Paul McGann who took on the role in the 1996 TV movie, Matt told The Sun:

Paul McGann Says Matt Smith Got Doctor Who Gig Because Of His Crazy Hair

Paul McGann has told The Sun that he believes that Matt Smith won his new Doctor Who role because of his crazy hair.

McGann played the Doctor in the 1996 movie adaptation of the show and said: “Matt said that in the auditions they could not stop talking about his hair.

“They were telling him his hair was wonderful — that’s exactly what happened to me when I got the part. Current Doctor David Tennant also has striking hair.
