Corrie: Chris Gascoyne’s amazed that fans love Peter Barlow!

Coronation Street star Chris Gascoyne has told Inside Soap magazine that he can’t understand how come the show’s fans seem to have such a soft spot for his boozing, adulterous character, bookie Peter Barlow.

And on the face of it, I can see his point. After all, he’s – albeit unintentionally – put little Simon’s life at risk twice, been unfaithful to his wife Leanne (Jane Danson) and now, he’s even lashing out verbally at his current partner Carla Connor.

To add insult to injury, he nearly gave his poor old dad Ken (Bill Roache) a coronary by doing a disappearing act and subsequently, Ken and Leanne had to go to the morgue to see if a corpse was in fact Peter…

Obviously it turned out it wasn’t, but Peter’s shown no remorse for putting his family through that ordeal, and in fact, he’s now set to leave the country with Simon (Alex Bain) putting them through yet more trauma. Read more & comment »

Corrie bosses edit body in canal scenes after Stone Roses’ fan found in similar circumstances

It’s been revealed today that an upcoming episode of Coronation Street has been edited after the body of Stone Roses fan Christopher Brahney was sadly found in a canal in Manchester.

The scenes in question – which the show’s bosses felt would be insensitive to air – featured police finding a body in a canal, and suspecting it could belong to missing bookie Peter Barlow, they ask his dad Ken (Bill Roache) and girlfriend Carla (Alison King) to identify the remains.

However, in the storyline, it turns out the body isn’t Peter’s (Chris Gascoyne) but as a mark of respect to Christopher, who went missing after watching Stone Roses play live in Manchester recently, the show’s writers have edited out references to the canal… Read more & comment »

Corrie star Chris Gascoyne needs a break from Peter Barlow’s life!

As fans of Coronation Street will know, if it weren’t for bad luck, Peter Barlow wouldn’t have any luck at all at the moment, which is one of the reasons why Chris Gascoyne, who plays him, wanted a break from the show.

Both he and co-star Alison King – who of course plays Carla Connor – have now filmed their last scenes on Corrie for the time being, but both will be back in October.

Of his need for a time-out from the show, Chris told Inside Soap magazine, “There’s no chance of a break on Coronation Street – it’s just one big storyline after another!

“Things snowball, and you can’t really stay on top of your work so much. I just need some time out to refresh myself, then I’ll come back raring to go once more…” Read more & comment »

Corrie star Alison King says Carla Connor would kidnap Simon Barlow for Peter’s sake!

As fans of Corrie will know, the relationship between Peter Barlow and Carla Connor is on increasingly shaky ground, and when Peter (Chris Gascoyne) once again turns to booze to drown his sorrows, Carla will be horrified when he “turns on her.”

Peter’s affair with Carla was of course the catalyst for the breakdown of his marriage to Leanne (Jane Danson) who now has custody of Peter’s son Simon (Alex Bain) after the little boy made it clear he’d rather live with her than with his dad and Carla.

But as Peter sinks further and further into the mire of self pity, he’ll take the view that everything that’s gone wrong in his life is because of Carla, and in a moment of madness, he will lure Simon away from Leanne and attempt to leave the country with him.

But would Carla stop him from taking such drastic action, or would she help him in a bid to repair their fractured relationship? Read more & comment »

Corrie star Jane Danson on the Barlows’ upsetting custody battle plotline

Coronation Street star Jane Danson has admitted that she found her character Leanne Barlow’s marriage breakdown and subsequent custody battle plotlines difficult to play…

In an interview with the Sun, Jane explained that as she’s a mother herself, she can empathise with everyone who gets caught up in that sort of situation, particularly where a child is ultimately the one to suffer when his or her parents split acrimoniously.

Leanne and Peter (Chris Gascoyne) have of course now settled their custody battle for Simon (Alex Bain) as Peter decided his son would be happier living with his step-mum Leanne.

Jane said, “It has been so sad. All of us who are involved in that story are parents so we can only empathise with that situation and try to imagine what that must be like… Read more & comment »

Corrie: Chris Gascoyne is full of praise for his young co-star Alex Bain

Chris Gascoyne, who plays the Corrie role of bookie and pro-boozer – though he’s gone into retirement right now – Peter Barlow, has revealed that he’s in awe of his little co-star Alex Bain, who plays the role of Peter’s son, Simon.

We have of course seen a lot of Peter and Simon of late on the show, as the little lad has been at the centre of a vitriolic tug of war between his dad and step mum Leanne (Jane Danson), and as Chris told What’s On TV, those scenes have often been fraught with very real emotion.

He said of Alex’s performances, “He has done great, and it’s not been an easy storyline for him, or any of us, it’s a tough thing to portray.”

And we have of course seen poor little Simon in tears on-screen frequently, and of that, Chris remarked, “It’s hard for him to do that. He has coped with it really well and we try to make it a bit of fun…” Read more & comment »

As fans of Coronation Street will know, recovering alcoholic Peter Barlow has been fighting a legal battle with his estranged wife Leanne (Jane Danson) over custody of his son Simon (Alex Bain).

And with no resolution in sight to the proceedings, it’s all getting a bit messy and nasty, with both Leanne and Peter threatening to expose each other’s dubious pasts, which for Leanne is mainly that she used to be a prostitute, and for Peter, it’s all about his boozing.
