ITV has announced that Primeval will return to our screens for two new series from 2011, thanks to a ground-breaking deal between ITV, UKTV, and producers Impossible Pictures.
The new series will be showrun once again by Adrian Hodges, and will feature the return of stars from the previous series, including Hannah Spearritt, Andrew Lee Potts and Jason Flemyng, alongside the acclaimed special effects created by the award-winning team at Framestore CFC.
ITV has today confirmed that it is to axe sci-fi show Primeval after three very successful series.
“After three very successful series of Primeval there are no plans at the present time for it to return to ITV. High-quality drama remains a key part of the ITV schedule although our current focus is on post-watershed productions,” an ITV spokesman said in a statement.

Warner Bros has revealed this week that they have bought the rights to ITV sci-fi show Primeval.
Kerry Foster will be co-producing the movie and said:
“There is a solid mythology to the series, but the movie has the dinosaur element of ‘Jurassic Park’ and the time travel element of ‘Lost,’ and it just feels like the kind of big movie that Warner Bros. does well,” Foster said.
An anomaly opens at a race car test track and a Megopteran comes through. This huge eight foot insect-like futuristic creature is carnivorous and lethal and the team need to draw on all their skills to capture it, get it back home and lock the anomaly. Little do they know however, that there were two creatures on the loose and one is left at the test track as the team pull out. Meanwhile at Abby’s flat her brother Jack steals her handheld detector and sets out, determined to uncover the truth about Abby’s job. The last thing he suspects is to come under attack by the lethal insect. Jack takes refuge in one of the cars at the test track, a gleaming Lotus, and inadvertently drives it straight through the anomaly into the future. The team are alerted and Abby is distraught. They have to go after him. Danny, Abby, Connor & Becker go through the anomaly on a mission to rescue him. What they discover on the other side is a dangerous world filled with Future Predators. The chances of finding Jack and getting back alive seem slim but Abby refuses to turn back without him.
Adrian Hodges has hit out at claims that ITV drama Primeval has been cancelled by the channel.
Hodges, the creator of the sci-fi series’s contacted Total Sci-Fi online to say:
“There are reports in the national press this morning that Primeval has been cancelled. This is absolutely not the case. Impossible Pictures have been in regular contact with ITV and all the indications are that provided ratings remain strong we will return for a fourth series.
Primeval star Andrew-Lee Potts has spoken out about the recent death of Nick Cutter on the ITV primetime show.
Speaking on This Morning, Potts – who plays Connor on the drama – revealed that the plot twist will have a “massive impact”.
“It does have a massive impact on everybody character-wise,” he said. “Also, in many ways it opens a lot of doors as well because everybody gets given more responsibility and I get to use my brain a little bit more.”
ITV plans to integrate a live Twitter feed with the simulcast of the first episode of the new series of Primeval.
When the first episode of Primeval 3 goes out on March 28th, fans who use Twitter will be able to see each others’ comments on the show, taking part in a mass conversation about the hotly anticipated first episode. All comments about the programme will appear in a window embedded underneath the player.

I missed the first series of Primeval, despite the rave reviews it received. So when I caught the season premiere over the weekend, I had high expectations.
For those of you who don’t know, Primeval is like Torchwood, but with dinosaurs instead of aliens. You’ve got some kind of obscure agency dedicated to capturing and containing stray dinosaurs.
