ITV have announced the return of the critically acclaimed, smash hit adventure series Primeval. Having taken a monster size chunk out of Saturday nights in 2008, Douglas Henshall, Hannah Spearritt, Ben Miller, Andrew-Lee Potts, Lucy Brown and Juliet Aubrey are back. And with an extended run of ten episodes, the action continues to evolve with more new faces joining the team.

Jason Flemyng (Stardust, Layer Cake, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) and Laila Rouass (Footballer’s Wives) get ready to tool up alongside Cutter’s crew as Danny Quinn, a maverick policeman drawn into the mystery by the death of his brother and sparky Egyptologist, Sarah Page. And faced with an increasing menagerie of terrors from our past and future, the team get its very own bodyguard in the courageous form of Captain Becker (introducing Ben Mansfield), leader of the ARC’s security forces. I missed the first series of Primeval, despite the rave reviews it received. So when I caught the season premiere over the weekend, I had high expectations.

For those of you who don’t know, Primeval is like Torchwood, but with dinosaurs instead of aliens. You’ve got some kind of obscure agency dedicated to capturing and containing stray dinosaurs.
