Red Dwarf Series 10 review: The sci-fi sitcom goes back to basics in this enjoyable first episode ‘Trojan’

Sometimes it’s best to keep things simple as too much messing around with a format can spoil it and that was definitely the case with the 2009 revival of Red Dwarf entitled Back to Earth.

I personally found Back to Earth incredibly self-referential while the lack of any background laughter made the programme a lot colder than it previously had been. Three years on and Dave has recommissioned the series for a six episode run kicking off with tonight’s instalment Trojan.

Corrie and Red Dwarf star Craig Charles is “back with a bang” on the cobbles!

The last time we saw cabbie Lloyd Mullaney in Weatherfield, he sold his half of Street Cars to Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly) and drove off into the sunset to try to mend his heart that was broken by Cheryl Gray (Holly Quin-Ankrah).

But in reality, Craig Charles, who plays the unlucky in most things cabbie Lloyd took time off from the Street to film a new series of Red Dwarf, which will air on Dave later this year.

However, despite some rumours that Craig wouldn’t return to the show, he has in fact done so, and what’s more he’s “back with a bang” according to a Corrie insider.

The source told the Daily Mirror, “There were all kinds of rumours flying around that Craig wasn’t coming back at all… Read more & comment »

Craig Charles had to have his Red Dwarf costumes altered due to “middle aged spread”

Corrie star Craig Charles has revealed that he’s had to have his costumes altered for his return to comedy Red Dwarf due to “middle aged spread.”

Craig, who’s about to take a break from Coronation Street in order to film new Red Dwarf episodes, told The Sun that as well as his own spreading girth, all the show’s major players have similarly increased in size.

He joked, “Kryten’s going to be a much wider robot and Cat wears a wig so you can’t see his grey hair.

“And Rimmer – he’ll need a touch-up.”

However, Craig told The Sun that he can’t wait to get back to filming for the hit comedy.

He said, “I like the idea of grumpy old men in space.”

The revamped series is set to air on Dave late next year. Read more & comment »
