It’s that time of the year when series creators have no nails left because of the frustrating wait to see if their show has been given the boot or if it has at least one more year left.

Over in camp ABC, it seems more renewals have taken place than cancelations – which can only be a good thing.

ABC confirmed this week that they will be renewing Revenge for a third season, which is great news for fans tuning in for the season two dramatic finale this evening.

The Madeline Stowe led series has proved a huge hit for the channel, both in the US and in foreign markets, so it seems like the wise decision. They also confirmed that Grey’s Anatomy will be back for a tenth run, hopefully McDreamy will stay in the lineup and it wasn’t surprising to hear that Modern Family will also be back for it’s fifth season.

Revenge with Emily VanCamp: Episode 1 Reviewed – Could this be the new Dynasty?

I feel that it’s smart for the UK channels to start airing new American shows after it has been announced if they’ve been picked up for a second series or not. In E4′s case I think they’ve learned their lesson from putting the ill-fate Charlie’s Angels re-make on too early and are now leaving it till May to air their new bunch of imports such as last week’s Apartment 23, the upcoming Suburgatory and Revenge which starts tonight on E4 all of which have been renewed for a second series.

This Week’s TV Highlights: The Eurovision Song Contest, The BAFTA TV Awards, Modern Family, Revenge, The Apprentice: The Final Five

A couple of US TV shows as well as some live extravaganzas headline this week’s big TV preview.

The Eurovision Song Contest (BBC1, Sat, 8pm)
After two nights of watching increasingly barmy semi-final acts, which saw us say goodbye to some of the wackiest songs, it’s time for Saturday’s main event namely. If, like me, you’re having a Eurovision shindig then you’ll want to pace yourself as there are plenty of boring Balkan ballads littered among the headline-grabbing acts which will drag your evening down. In terms of UK viewers the evening may peak early on as Englebert Humperdink, or #TheHump as idiots are now calling him, is performing his gentle love song ‘Love Will Set You Free’ in the first position. Will that count against him in the final voting? Only time will tell however it’s quite clear that our country will probably never win this thing again. Along the way we also have the Turkish man-boat, the Russian Grannies, the Ukrainian Samantha Mumba, the Swedish girl getting pelted by snow and of course the unstoppable force that is Jedward. Though Eurovision isn’t always great its camp value shines through and if you don’t take it too seriously you’re always guaranteed to have a good time.

Revenge star Joshua Bowman says the show has “similar undercurrent” to Downton Abbey

ABC drama Revenge is set to air here in the UK later this year on E4, and one of the show’s stars, Joshua Bowman, reckons the show’s sure to do well here as it has a “similar undercurrent” to hit period drama, Downton Abbey.

Joshua – who formerly starred in Holby City before heading Stateside – expanded on his thoughts about how similar Revenge is to Downton, telling the PA, “It’s got a similar undercurrent to it, where there’s lots of secrets and stuff going on.

“So I think it will work, hopefully it will.”

In Revenge, Joshua stars alongside leading lady Emily VanCamp – who plays Emily Thorne – as her “love interest”, and he revealed that he’s loved working with her.

He said, “She’s fantastic. Extremely talented and I learn from her every day…” Read more & comment »
