The BBC have revealed that it’s to air a lavish adaptation of children’s book Room on the Broom over Christmas, and they’ve lined up an all star voice-over cast including Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams, X Files star Gillian Anderson and former Gavin & Stacey star, Rob Brydon.
The corporation says of the show, “The premier of the half-hour animated special Room on the Broom, will light up faces and warm the cockles of every family on their sofa this Christmas, when it broadcasts as a festive highlight on BBC One.”
Room on the Broom is described as an “enchanting tale” of friendship and family that has been adapted by the same creative team that made The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child.
The award-winning book was written in 2001 by Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. It features a kind witch who invites a collection of animals to join her on her broom, much to the frustration of her pet cat… Read more & comment »

Fans of Top Gear will undoubtedly be a tad naffed off to hear that the show won’t be back on our screens with a new series again until 2013.
And why is that I hear you cry? Well, apparently it’s because the BBC fear the show will do badly in the viewer ratings as it would clash with The X Factor in the timeslot it’s been allocated.
However, why the Beeb can’t just move it around the schedule will forever remain a mystery.
Of there being no new episodes this year, gob on a stick presenter Jeremy Clarkson said, “Top Gear is a medium-sized van. Cowell is a juggernaut.”
Writing in The Sun, Jeremy continued, “Would love to be back in the autumn but Sunday nights then will be full of fat people singing… Read more & comment »

Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon – who oplayed Uncle Bryn in the hit sitcom – reckons that the chances of any new episodes of the show have been scuppered since its two leading actors have lost so much weight.
He is of course referring to the co-writers and stars of the show, Ruth Jones who played Nessa, and James Corden who played Smithy, both of whom look completely different now they’ve slimmed down.
Ruth has gone from being a hefty 17 stones to just over 9, while James has dropped from 21 stones to 16.
Speaking to the Sun about Ruth and James’ transformations, Rob said, “It’ll be tricky now, as a lot of what worked about Nessa was her weight… Read more & comment »

Fan of the now defunct sitcom Gavin and Stacey – this one included – are eagerly awaiting some form of a reprisal, and last year, Ruth Jones – who of course co-wrote and starred in the show, alongside James Corden – suggested she might consider penning a musical version.
However, while speaking to the Sun, Rob Brydon, who starred as Bryn, has slated the idea, branding it, “a bit pants,” and adding, “It was perfect, leave it like that.”
Ruth, who’s currently starring in her new Sky1 comedy Stella, said of the musical, “The characters are big enough to work in a musical setting and James Corden and I both like a bit of a song…” Read more & comment »
