The BBC has announced that they’re axing Robin Hood in light of several cast departures and a reduction in viewing figures.
According to the Press Association, the show, which averaged between four and five million viewers during its third and final series, pulled in about 1.7 million viewers for its final show, the BBC said.
It suffered the slump after being moved to BBC2 from its normal slot on BBC1 to make way for live coverage of Andy Murray at Wimbledon. Read more & comment »

When Robin Hood, Gisborne and the outlaws intercept one of Isabella’s messengers with a missive to Prince John there is both good and bad news, in tonight’s penultimate episode in the current series of the medieval drama.
Rumours are circulating that the gorgeous Rob Kazinsky is in the frame to take over as Robin Hood after Jonas Armstrong leaves the series.
Keith Allen, who plays The Sheriff Of Nottingham will also need replacing as he announced this will also be his last series of the show. I was worried that the show wouldn’t survive the loss of two such central characters, but the addition of Kazinsky could well save the series. We all know he can act and he would be a more convincing Robin than the weedy Armstrong.
Keith Allen has admitted that he doesn’t intend to return to BBC’s Robin Hood for its fourth series next year.
Speaking to the South Wales Evening Post, Allen explained: “I doubt I’ll go back for a fourth series if they do one – it’s boring to work on now. I’ve done three series, and I’d like to move on to something else.”
He added: “The work I’ve done on it has been brilliant, though. I’ve enjoyed all three series a huge amount, they’ve been excellent.

Robin Hood is returning to our screens for series three this Saturday night.
Out of BBC’s three big Saturday night shows (Doctor Who, Merlin and Robin Hood) I think RH leaves a bit to be desired. In my opinion its the least convincing and the least intriguing but in fairness its still not as bad as primeval which sadly is also returning soon.
Hit TV series Robin Hood returns to BBC One this Spring with a host of new faces. During 13 action-packed episodes the quest continues for justice and freedom for all.
It is three months since Marian’s untimely death and Robin (Jonas Armstrong) is a changed man. Tougher, he’s sacked his gang since they all returned from the Holy Land. Not only that – he’s hell bent on avenging his wife’s tragic end.
Jonas says: “Robin’s back from the Holy Land but without Marian, the beat of his life. He’s questioning everything he ever lived for and now it’s pay back time and he’s become obsessed with killing Gisborne. The big question is will he take his mortal enemy’s life?

BBC Drama Robin Hood will make its return this autumn and according to bosses, it will be darker and bigger than the first.
Dominic Minghella, the show’s executive producer, commented: “The second series is darker and bigger and Robin is tortured and bullied a bit.
“The battle is not just in Nottingham anymore, it is a battle for England.”
And Foz Allan, also a producer, explained: “In the first series Robin was growing between a boy and a man. Now Jonas has beefed up quite a lot and is definitely a man.”

The leading man in BBC TV series Robin Hood has broken his foot in Hungary, bringing production to a halt.
The Mail On Sunday reported that Jonas Armstrong fractured a metatarsal while filming a fight scene for the show.
