As we reported recently, young mum Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) is about to cheat on her boyfriend Chesney Battersby-Brown by embarking on an affair with Corrie bad lad Ryan Connor.

And though the romance between Katy and Ryan will be short lived, it seems that loyal Ches (Sam Aston) will find out about it, right after he’s proposed to Katy, who is of course the mother of his son Joseph!

The Daily Star reports that in front of all their friends and neighbours, Chesney will propose to Katy in the Rovers.

The Sun reports on the shocking plotline today, stating, “Actress Georgia May Foote, who plays young mum Katy, was snapped filming scenes on location with Sol Heras, Coronation Street bad boy Ryan Connor.”

The paper adds that Katy and Ryan will share a kiss after the van they’re in breaks down. Last night saw the 13^th annual British Soap Awards, and all the stars braved the wind and rain to take their seats for the spectacular event, held at the ITV studios in London, where UnrealityTV were on the red carpet to speak to them all before the event started.

The cast of Coronation Street were out in force on the red carpet, hoping to bring home the majority of silverware for a second consecutive year at the prestigious awards ceremony.

As fans of Corrie will of course know, Sam Aston’s character Chesney Brown became a dad at Christmas, even though he and his girlfriend Katy Armstrong are barely more than kids themselves.

And while speaking to Inside Soap about his character’s storylines, Sam revealed that he’s in no hurry to become a dad himself.

He said, “I come from a big family and I’m used to having kids around, so working with babies hasn’t made me broody at all.

“Anyway, I don’t think I could take as much as poor Chesney has! I struggle at acting sometimes, never mind doing it for real!”

We all know of course that Father Christmas is a dab hand at dishing out surprises on Christmas Eve…

And for Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) and her boyfriend Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) he’s going to deliver a very special gift; a baby boy!

However, as Chesney is stuck miles away from Weatherfield when Katy goes into labour, he’ll have a Planes, Trains and Automobiles-esque dash to get back to Coronation Street in time to see his son born.

But fear not, for according to the Daily Mail – who carried the picture on the left today – Ches does make it in time to see little Joseph Brown enter the world.

When their baby’s born, Ches tells Katy, “I can’t believe it. We’ve got a son. Our son, my son. I love you so much.”

And little Joseph will share his birthday with a number of the Street’s residents, such as Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan) and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) who were born at Christmas in 1990… Read more & comment »

In news from Weatherfield today, it’s been reported that the show’s bosses are keen to get Tina O’Brien and Nikki Sanderson back on the show.

The girls, who respectively played the parts of Sarah Louise Platt – who became Sarah Grimshaw after she married Jason – and her BFF Candice Stowe, were apparently offered enticingly large salaries to make a comeback to Coronation Street.

A source said to be close to the show’s executive producer, Phil Collinson, told the Daily Star, “He’s aware that Sarah-Lou and Candice were hugely popular characters. He thinks it would be a ratings winner to bring them back.

“Losing Katherine [Kelly] and Helen [Flanagan] is a big blow to the show, so Phil wants to beef things up a bit with the return of a couple of big names.”

But starting with Chesney’s devastation at losing Schmeichel, Sam Aston told Soaplife that even though his character tries a last and desperate bid to save his Great Dane, it’s not going to work…

As we saw in last night’s episode, Ches was devastated when the vet informed him that Schmeichel might have cancer. Poor Ches told the vet to do whatever it takes to make the dog better, irrespective of cost, but at home, his girlfriend Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) was in tears as an eviction notice was served on the young couple.

It all begins with a trip to the vet when Schmeichel seems under the weather, and to Chesney’s horror, the vet tells him that the poor pooch is really unwell, and needs an expensive operation.

Now of course, Chesney and his girlfriend Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) are expecting a baby at Christmas, and they’re struggling to pay their bills as it is, what with their only income being Ches’s market stall.
