You might have missed it, but someone told the interweb that Zach Braff was dead. You might have missed it but his Mum didn’t and she was worried by the news that her son had died from an overdose of prescription pills.
Scrubs writer and creator Bill Lawrence has revealed that season 9 will be set entirely at a medical school rather than at Sacred Heart, the fictional setting for all previous series of the show.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lawrence said, “It’s going to be a different show. It’ll still be life-and-death stakes, but if the show is just Scrubs again in the hospital with a different person’s voiceover, it would be a disaster and people would be mad”
This decision to take the show in a new direction was possibly prompted by the departures of Zach Braff who played JD and Sarah Chalke who played his on-off love interest, Elliot Reid. Read more & comment »
US TV network ABC is said to be planning a new version of Scrubs for next season. According to The Hollywood Reporter the new show will be a hybrid, and will feature old cast regulars alongside new cast members who appeared as interns this season.
Original cast members Zach Braff (John ‘J.D.’ Dorian), Sarah Chalke (Dr Elliot Reid) have agreed to return for six episodes, with their fellow cast members Donald Faison (Dr Christopher Turk), John C McGinley (Dr Perry Cox) and Neil Flynn (The Janitor) all returning as series regulars.
Judy Reyes (Nurse Carla Espinosa) may return for a handful of episodes if the ninth series gets the green light.
We heard earlier in the year that Courtney Cox had been lined up as a guest star in hilarious medical drama Scrubs, but a hot foxy siren was not what we expected to see.
US Comedy ‘Scrubs’ is about to return for its eighth series. It may return for a ninth, but according to Variety magazine, star of the show Zach Braff, certainly won’t.
Braff revealed that he would most likely return as a guest star if the show continues on into a ninth season. He also hinted that he would like to direct a few of those future episodes. Showrunner Bill Lawrence stated, “The end of the show will be about J.D. leaving the hospital. When you leave, it’s about holding on to your relationships.”
Asked how long he thought the series would continue, Lawrence joked, “You can’t kill this show. Next year we’ll be on CBS.” Most of the eighth season is already in the can, and will air sometime early next year.
Just watched an episode of Scrubs where Dr Cox is withdrawn after three transplant patients die.
He rolls into work drunk one day, and gets sent on a leave of absence. He starts drinking and stops talking to everyone.
The gang rally round him at home, except JD, who pretends to take a moral stance about his being drunk at the hospital and stays away.
However, he has a change of heart at the end, and goes to Cox. He opens up to Cox and manages to get him out of his depression. The episode closes with Cox in the bar with everyone else. In typical Cox fashion, he walks over to JD and gives him a simple pat on the back.
That’s what I love about Scrubs, and what I’ll really miss when the series closes down for good. JD looks on Cox as a 50/50 mix of father figure/superhero. I’m not sure whether Cox shares the paternal bond, but while he frequently shows JD tough love, there are occassional glimmers of geniune feeling.
I think because Cox is so emotionally damaged, those moments when he connects with JD are really touching. Maybe I’m just a big sap, but I had a lump in my throat at the end of that episode of Scrubs.
What about you guys? Have you got any favourite moments from Scrubs?
Scrubs actor John C. McGinley has had a baby girl. Well not himself you understand. Obviously his wife, Nichole Kessler, actually gave birth to the little darling, but you don’t know who she is, so why mention her, right?
McGinley, who plays Dr Perry Cox in the US comedy, told People: “Nichole was a mountain lion, a warrior in the birthing process. The birth was astonishing! Mom and baby girl are 100%.”
