Two of our favourite soap stars are about to go head to head in the new series of popular ITV quiz show, All Star Family Fortunes, in a bid to win money for their chosen charities.

Coronation Street star, Mikey North, who plays father to be Gary Windass in the hit ITV1 soap, will take on Emmerdale star and Dancing On Ice champ, Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe in the battle hosted by Vernon Kay.

The Solana’s new manageress – Joyce Temple-Savage (Sherrie Hewson) is organising a dance competition for the guests. Everyone is eager to take part, and rehearsals are supervised by an old flame of Joyce’s – TV’s Cyril Babcock (Matthew Kelly) – an ageing juve whose impatience with the talent-lite contestants leads to a hilarious dance-off with smouldering Mateo (Jake Canuso).

Our favourite holidaymakers are in for a shock this year as the Solana resort gets a new manager and she means business! Joyce Temple Savage (played by Loose Women’s Sherrie Hewson) is on a mission to upgrade the Solana resort into a 4 star hotel – at all costs.

The new series of Benidorm kicks off on ITV this Friday – yay! – and ahead of it, Loose Women star Sherrie Hewson has been telling What’s On TV magazine about her character, the snooty Joyce Temple Savage.

As fans of the show will know, Sherrie’s character has been brought in to shake up the Solana hotel and resort complex in the wake of the departure of its previous manager, Janey, who was played by Crissy Rock.

However, her attempts to make the hotel more appealing to a discerning clientele do not go down well with the karaoke, burger loving, beer swilling regulars.

Of the role, Sherrie said, “In my 40-odd years as an actor this is one of my best roles.

Sherrie Hewson is of course currently – and arguably – best known for being one of ITV’s Loose Women panelists, but of course, she originally found fame in the role of Maureen Naylor in Corrie, and later, as Lesley Meredith in Emmerdale…

And according to the Sun’s TV Biz, when she left her Emmerdale role, Sherrie thought she may never act again. However, while speaking to the paper about her new role in hit sitcom Benidorm, Sherrie revealed that the role of hotel manager Joyce Temple-Savage has restored her confidence in herself.

We’ll see Sherrie playing the part of the upper class new hotel manager when Benidorm returns to our screens with a new series later this month.

While discussing the show, and her role, Sherrie said, “What the part has done is bring me back to acting which I haven’t done for a very long time.

When hit ITV sitcom Benidorm returns to our screens with a new series later this month, the regular holidaymakers at the Solana are revolting…

As in, literally holding a revolt against the new hotel manager’s attempts to make the place more classy by banning karaoke and ordering guests to dress smartly.

And of course, that doesn’t go down well with the likes of the Garvey family, so the guests plot a rebellion to overthrow the new manager, “snooty” Joyce Temple-Savage, who’s played by Loose Women – and former Corrie – star Sherrie Hewson, who took over the running of the hotel from Janey (Crissy Rock).

A show insider told the Daily Star, “Joyce thinks the [hotel] is tacky and wants to make it posh. But she has a fight on her hands.

Some of TV’s leading ladies, including Loose Women stars Sherrie Hewson and Andrea McLean, as well as former soap stars Bev Callard and Gillian Taylforth, have been photographed naked to prove that middle aged doesn’t mean past it.

And as you can see in the photo above, the ladies look fabulous in all their birthday suit glory.

Gillian, who’s 56, told Best magazine, “In TV, it’s OK for men to be 50 or 60, but for women it’s very difficult. Older actresses can feel put by the wayside.

“I left The Bill three years ago, and since then TV work has been harder to come by – it probably started in my late 40s.” Read more & comment »

Former Corrie star Sherrie Hewson has revealed that she fully understands how Loose Women stars Zoe Tyler and Kate Thornton felt when they were ditched from the show.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Sherrie explained that show business in general is a “cut throat” industry.

She said, “OK, of course it’s sad for Zoe and Kate personally. But these things happen every day in television.

“It’s never personal, although of course it feels that way when it’s happening to you and it’s a job you love.

“The truth is, shows change all the time and executives want to renew and re-energise them.

“It’s awful news for the girls themselves, but unfortunately it happens to everyone in TV at some point and it doesn’t mean the end of you.

“Coleen Nolan was axed along with Twiggy from This Morning 10 years ago and look at her now – she’s back on the same show and more popular than ever.” Read more & comment »

She’s the bubbliest of the Loose Women but, behind her cheeky humour, Sherrie Hewson’s had a stressful few years, with divorce, bankruptcy and her husband’s alleged infidelity taking their toll. But the ex-Corrie star refuses to be beaten down, and in a shoot with Closer magazine the 60 year old can’t wait to strip off.

Seeing the pics afterwards Sherrie’s chuffed, saying: “I’m aware of my age, but this has been beautifully shot. I’d never have done this at 40 – I wasn’t confident about my body, but now I’m ready to accept who I am. Maybe I should do a Playboy centrefold next!”

Sherrie Hewson has claimed that she was attacked by a fellow cast member during her time on ITV’s Coronation Street, it has been reported.

Hewson, who played Maureen Holdsworth (nee Naylor) from 1993 – 1997, is set to release her autobiography in March detailing the attack.
