Stacey Solomon: Depression, Teen Mums and Me – BBC Three

It has always seemed like X Factor finalist and Queen of the Jungle Stacey Solomon has had everything – two children, a loving partner, a singing career and celeb status. However, Stacey has been hiding a secret behind all the glitz and glamour of her new life.

Stacey had her first son when she was only 18 years old and developed a commmon illness that most mothers are scared to acknowledge – postnatal depression. One in ten mothers develop PND but the rate is three times higher for teenage mothers than it is for their older counterparts.

For the first time in her life, Stacey decides to go out and meet other teenage mums suffering from the debilitating mental illness that has harmed her and so many other mothers. She also talks to her own mother who helped her deal with it, discusses postnatal depression with professionals and has an extremely emotional session with a psychotherapist to attempt to come to terms with why she felt the way she did.

Stacey bravely sets on a quest to highlight this illness which can have potentially fatal consequences. She wants to overcome the social stigma that surrounds PND that she believes should never be simply dismissed as ‘the baby blues’.
