Starz has confirmed that the upcoming third series from the ‘Spartacus’ franchise will be the last and showrunner Steven S. DeKnight has stepped in to justify their decision.

The 10 episode season – which will be called “War of the Damned” – will air in January 2013 and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the show boss admitted that they were making a ‘brave move’ in cancelling the franchise, while it still had mass appeal but he insisted that he was adamant that he wanted to bring a natural end to “the show when you’re on top and the audience still wants more instead of dragging it out until it starts to wane and you kind of limp to the finish line.”
