But alas, he’s off to the great snug in the sky, but Gloria (Sue Johnston) certainly won’t shed too many tears, lest she makes the ink on his will run, however, she’s in for a shock when she learns that actually, Eric was broke! Read more & comment »

In next week’s episodes of Coronation Street, Gloria Price turns up like the proverbial bad penny at the Rovers, but she has a man in tow and wastes no time in introducing her new fiancé, Eric!

We of course saw Gloria (Sue Johnston) leave Weatherfield last year after her daughter Stella (Michelle Collins) banished her having learned about Gloria’s part in breaking up Lewis Archer and Audrey Roberts, and having also discovered that her mother cheated to win the Pub of the Year Award.

But, undaunted and unrepentant, Gloria can’t wait to show her fiancé Eric off, and to tell Stella and her granddaughter Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) how rich her new beau is… Read more & comment »

Corrie: Will Stella Price force mum Gloria to leave the Street when her cheating and lies are exposed?!

Since she arrived in Weatherfield earlier this year, Gloria Price (Sue Johnston) has proven to be a pathological liar and a cheat, and she’ll do and say pretty much anything to get her own way…

And as we’ve seen recently, because Gloria’s taken a shine to suave Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers) she’s lied yet again and convinced him that she’s dying, just so that she can get him to spend time with her!

But before that particularly black lie, Gloria had of course entered the Rovers into a Pub of the Year contest – behind daughter Stella’s back – and has been conniving to win ever since.

We’ve seen her telling customers what to write on their supposedly anonymous feedback forms – which go towards the judges’ decision about who wins the contest – and even just plain making them up… Read more & comment »

However, her latest stunt to improve the chances of the Rovers winning the accolade will leave Stella dumbfounded and livid!

Corrie: Sue Johnston was star struck on the cobbles! See sneak peek look at some of her first scenes (VIDEO)

In Wednesday night’s trip to Coronation Street, newcomer Gloria is going to literally burst onto our screens when she turns up unannounced at the Rovers in the early hours of the morning, banging loudly on the door until her bleary eyed daughter Stella (Michelle Collins) opens up.

Stunned to see her mum, who’s supposed to be running a bar in Spain, Stella wants to know what’s so urgent that mum Gloria needs to visit all of a sudden, but finding her mum reticent on her reasons for her arrival, Stella gets her mum and drink and along with Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) the trio have a catch up.

However, within hours of her arrival, Gloria is set to make her presence very much felt among the residents! More on that in a moment, but first, Sue Johnston, who of course plays Gloria, has revealed that she was “star struck” when she first arrived on set.

But of course, though this wasn’t her first role on the show – she played bookie’s wife Mrs Chadwick in 1982 – it was the first time that she’d met several members of the cast.

Speaking to TV Biz, Sue said of her co-stars, “I was a bit giddy when I saw them all… Read more & comment »

Sue Johnston, who began her TV career on Corrie and who’s now back, says, “It was meant to be”

Actress Sue Johnston is arguably most famous for her role in sitcom The Royle Family as matriarch Barbara Royle, and/or her role in Brookside as Sheila Grant…

However, what many fans may not know is that Sue in fact began her career in TV with an appearance in Coronation Street in the role of Mrs Chadwick – that was in 1982 – and now of course, she’s back, playing the part of feisty Gloria, who is Stella Price’s mum.

And in an interview with the Daily Mirror, Sue revealed that she feels her return to the cobbles was “meant to be.”

She also explained that working on the Manchester based soap also has the advantage of enabling her to be nearer to her son and new grandson, who live in the area.

Sue said, “My son has just had his baby and they live in Manchester… Read more & comment »

Corrie: First look at Sue Johnston as Gloria who storms onto the Street next week!

She makes her debut on September 5th, and starts out rather much as it seems she intends to go on – by making a huge row!

Her arrival is announced when Stella (Michelle Collins) and her daughter Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) are woken in the small hours by a hammering on the pub doors.

Corrie: Stella’s mum Gloria will turn the Rovers into a B&B!

Fans of Coronation Street will of course know that The Royle Family star Sue Johnston has joined the cast of the soap to play the role of Gloria, who is Stella Price’s mum.

It’s been widely publicized that Gloria will be the Street’s latest “battleaxe” and she’ll have no problem letting the locals have it both barrels if they upset her in any way…

However, she seems to have similar disregard for her family’s opinions either, because when Stella (Michelle Collins) has to go away, Gloria takes charge of The Rovers, and decides that the place would be perfect as a B&B.

But not only does that not sit well with the locals, Gloria’s own granddaughter Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) is far from impressed with the plan… Read more & comment »

Corrie newcomer Sue Johnston joined the show to be near her grandson

And in an interview with TV Biz, Sue has revealed that she leapt at the chance to play Gloria because her son lives in Manchester, and he and his partner have recently welcomed a baby boy into the world, so Sue can now be near her grandson.

Sue – who was due to begin filming on Corrie earlier this year, but had to delay after she was struck down with a mystery illness – explained, “My son lives in Manchester and he’s just had my first grandchild. So it made sense to be working where the baby is.”

Also during the interview, Sue confirmed that Gloria is set to join the ranks of the show’s legendary battleaxes, such as Ena Sharples and Blanche Hunt, who was of course played by the late Maggie Jones… Read more & comment »

Corrie: Sue Johnston’s character Gloria set to be “the new Blanche Hunt!”

Fans of Corrie will of course recall that the late great Maggie Jones played Street matriarch and battleaxe Blanche Hunt…

However, it seems Blanche’s sensible moccasins are about to be filled by newcomer Gloria (Sue Johnston) who will ruffle more than a few feathers when she turns up in Weatherfield to visit with her daughter, Stella Price (Michelle Collins).

Stella is of course the landlady of The Rovers, and although she’ll tell her mum that she has to stay out of pub business, feisty granny Gloria simply can’t keep her opinions to herself when Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) brands her “vulgar.”

She will furiously order Norris, and sidekick Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) out of the pub, telling the newsagent, “Go on, get out. And tell Mary Quite Contrary she’s barred an’ all.” Read more & comment »

It had been reported earlier this year that Corrie newcomer Sue Johnston – who of course played the role of Barbara in the Royle Family and Sheila Grant in Brookside – would be on our screens as Stella Price’s (Michelle Collins) battleaxe mum Gloria this month…

However, after Sue was laid low by a “mystery illness” her scheduled debut was put on hold until she was recovered sufficiently to join the cast of the show and begin filming.

She did in fact start filming in April – her original scenes were to have aired during the storyline that saw Stella booting cheating boyfriend Karl (John Michie) out of the Rovers – but soon after had to take leave after she fell ill.

Of Sue’s later than expected arrival on the Street, a Corrie insider told TV Biz, “It’s taken a bit of time to write Sue back in, because the writers needed to find the perfect scenario to introduce her character… Read more & comment »
